It's No Trick - Sight Night is This Halloween!
Taking the kids or grandkids trick-or-treating in a few weeks? Why not give the gift of sight to a child a world away at the same time you enjoy all the Halloween festivities?
This Halloween, join other Lions nationwide for Sight Night 2009, sponsored by Lions Clubs International and OneSight, a Luxottica Group Foundation and family of charitable vision care programs dedicated to improving vision through outreach, research and education. Simply encourage your friends and neighbors to dig up their used eyeglasses throughout the month of October and then pick them up as you and your family go door-to-door on Halloween night. Eyeglasses may then be sent to the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation so that we can distribute them to mission groups in Third-World countries.
Sight Night details and a participation guide are available now on the Lions Web site. If you need any help promoting Sight Night in your community, please contact the Foundation PR department at 800-283-1982, ext. 115 or info@mlerf.org, and we will be more than happy to contact your local media outlets.
Whether you participate on your own or with your entire Lions club, Sight Night is an easy volunteer opportunity that can make a huge impact on thousands in need worldwide.
Remember a Loved One Through a Memorial Fund
Creating a memorial fund through the Foundation is a heartfelt way to honor the legacy of a loved one while improving the quality of life for someone right here in Missouri.
Each year, donations in memory of Missouri Lions who have passed away help the Foundation screen thousands for amblyopia and glaucoma, provide eye care assistance to individuals in your district and distribute gratis corneal tissue to the neediest of transplant recipients.
When you donate to a memorial fund, a letter will be sent to the honoree’s family members, informing them of your generous gift. In addition, memorial funds reaching $500 will be recognized with a plaque in the Foundation’s library in Columbia, Mo.
To set up a memorial fund or to receive donation envelopes for a memorial service, contact the Foundation development department at 800-283-1982, ext. 107.
