January 2012
BECA has a new website!
Why the change?
I want to pull BECA out of what I call the "technology trap."
We were spending WAY too much time managing technology and drain numero uno was the website.
BECA is in the business of facilitating scholarships for Nicaraguan youth, not administering database relationships and refreshing Internet links. In two languages.
"No más."
One of the core values of BECA is simplicity.
And I'd like to think our new streamlined site is easy to follow, and, if I may say so, elegant.
It definitely won't require 30 to 40 person-hours of maintenance every month.
No more being held hostage by grumpy web hosting companies, either. Our site is hosted by Google. It is one of the tools this generous company offers to certified non-profits free of charge.
That means we can award at least one more scholarship a year with the money we save. That makes me happy.
As in . . . Happy New Year!
All of us here in Nicaragua remain very grateful that you continue to pay attention to our activities.
Sincerely, Walter Hunchak Founder, BECA.org walter@beca.org
