November 2011

Dear ,

For BECA, October is about making decisions for the coming year.

This October was no exception.

Antonio Rodriguez -- BECA Executive Director -- and I took off for a weekend away to put our heads together and see what we could figure out for 2012.

2011 was a year we tried a lot of new things.
  • Two new cities.
  • A new mandatory social service component.
  • A new staff.
One of them worked out pretty good. The other two, were, ahem, "excellent learning experiences." <gulp>

So in 2012, we're going back to the basics.

First, we are retreating from the cities of Matagalpa and Estelí, hopefully to return better-prepared one day.

Second, we will equip our BECA team only with our own graduates.

And third, I personally will make a more determined attempt to yield more ground to these young, bright and resourceful Nicaraguans. (Translation: Walter, STOP micro-managing!)

I am grateful to all of you who remain interested in
our activities here in BECA Nicaragua.

Sincerely,
Walter Hunchak
