August 2011 Update
I was out of Nicaragua for most of July. And I did my darndest not to stick my nose in from afar. For the most part, I'd like to think I succeeded.
How did BECA Nicaragua manage on its own?
I'll have to say 50-50. I was happy with some things, unhappy with others.
I am now convinced that an international-based organization building a presence in a new country needs a strong local partner to make rapid, serious headway. A partner that is as or more passionate about the mission.
From the beginning BECA has never had that local partner.
I have been on my own.
That hasn't been a bad thing. This kind of non-arrangement has allowed me the flexiblity to "play" with features of the programme as I see fit to push the plan forward and maximize it's effectiveness.
What is my priority now? Dedicating myself to assembling the best Nicarguan team possible to take BECA to the next level.
Some of the pieces of the puzzle are already in place, so it shouldn't be too difficult.
Thanks again for believing in what we are doing here.
Sincerely, Walter Hunchak Founder, BECA.org
