November Update
Dear ,
The question I am asked most often about BECA goes something like this:
"The BECA program sounds good, but will the students get jobs after they finish studying?"
It's a good question. And the answer is . . . I really don't know, but I hope so.
After all, that's the idea of BECA; give Nicaraguans -- who have no other options -- an opportunity to study a technical career so that afterwards they can get a job and improve their quality of life.
Will it work out that way? I have no idea. The economy really sucks big time right now here in Nicaragua and it doesn't look like it will improve anytime soon.
What I can tell you is this. I am seeing dramatic changes in some of the students.
I am seeing a willingness to take on more tasks.
I am seeing students look me right in the eyes when they talk to me.
And -- maybe it is my willful imagination -- but I'm seeing more smiles.
I know that all of this sappy stuff doesn't change our mission here.
But it makes me more determined than ever to stubbornly keep plowing ahead.
