Why start BECA in Nicaragua?
Here are some ideas:
- Nicaragua is the second (or third) poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
- The education system in Nicaragua is in shambles.
- The poverty directly affects school participation (thus making it a prime candidate for a program like BECA).
However, the answer to the question isn't really that profound: I was in Nicaragua when the idea came to me.
I believe the idea came first. Hmmm. But then again, would I have thought of it if I wasn't in Nicaragua?
Now about that chicken and egg . . .
