Home for the Holidays

More than any other time of the year, November and December seem to be when we really focus on "hearth and home." Even if you have no hearth, you'll want your home to be warm and welcoming, cozy and comfortable for your family and friends.

If you're entertaining this holiday season, let us help get your home ready for guests (or family you may see only once a year). Our handyman service can do small projects that you've been putting off, like:

• adding a fresh coat of paint
• installing new light fixtures at the front door, in the dining room or in the kitchen
• replacing or repairing leaky faucets and toilets
• upgrading your water heater
• fixing or replacing broken or loose steps or handrails
• repairing "sticky" doors, locks or door knobs
• installing new shower heads and faucet sets in the guest bathroom
• suggesting and supplying improvements to your storage problems

As the holidays get into full swing and you start welcoming your guests, you'll probably notice things around your house that aren't exactly as you'd like them to be. Is everyone bumping elbows in the kitchen while helping (or watching) you prepare meals? Is your dining room or family room no longer adequate for a growing extended family? Do you have family members staying in hotels when you'd rather have them staying with you?

Start a list now and keep it handy through the New Year, adding items that you'll want to change before the holidays roll around next year. Here are some things to think about:

• bumping out and opening up the kitchen
• opening your floor plan for a combined living/dining area
• adding storage space: cabinets, closets, butler's pantry, wet bar, media center
• upgrading lighting: kitchen, dining room, exterior
• adding or remodeling a guest room or bath
• making your home more comfortable and energy efficient: windows, doors, insulation
• adding a home office so you can close off your work/personal space when you entertain
