Value Engineering Gives You More
of What You Want

Value engineering is a budgeting, planning, and design technique that allocates more funds to the areas that are most important to you. Every homeowner has different priorities, and at Gridley Company, we will strive to understand yours and build your remodeling project around what is most important to you.

As an example of how value engineering shapes a project, let’s look at two hypothetical remodeling projects, both kitchen and master suite remodels with the same budget.

Homeowner one leads a busy, active lifestyle outside the home. This homeowner spends some time in the kitchen cooking basic meals for their family, and occasionally hosts small dinner parties, but is generally too busy to cook complicated meals. Their kitchen is generally used as an informal gathering spot for family and friends. Homeowner one has also grown increasingly frustrated with their master bedroom suite, and would like to make it easier for both husband and wife to get ready in the morning. For this project, we might allocate a larger portion of the budget to upgrade the surfaces in the kitchen to make it beautiful and welcoming, add a dressing room with custom cabinetry to the master suite, and add a second sink to the master bathroom.

Homeowner two considers the home a refuge from the outside world. This homeowner enjoys and takes pride in cooking elaborate gourmet meals for family and close friends. For this project, we would probably allow a greater part of the budget for professional-grade cooking appliances and a food preparation area, and allocate funds towards the installation of a relaxing whirlpool tub or sauna that would make the master bathroom a true retreat.

The key to the success of both of these projects is in the remodeler taking the time to understand the homeowners' needs and wants, and planning the project budgets around them. One remodeling project will not fit every homeowner, but one remodeling company can. You can count on Gridley Company to take the time to understand what you want, and to deliver on it.

Home Maintenance Tip:
A Clean Chimney is a Safe Chimney

Before you use your fireplace this year, have a certified chimney sweep inspect and clean the flues and check your fireplace damper. They’ll remove any build-up of soot and creosote inside the chimney and take care of any bird nests that could block the escape of gases or catch fire from sparks.
