The Crying Tree has a book trailer! The link is below as well as a link to another film I have created and an invitation to the Pacific Northwest Book Award celebration to be held at Anne Bloom's Books AND an opportunity to hear both Aba Gayle and me speak about the death penalty and forgiveness at an upcoming event in Portland.
The Crying Tree - Book Trailer
Writer, artist, and film maker Mel Croucher has produced a wonderful TRAILER for The Crying Tree. It is brief, to the point, and evocative. I learned about Mel through writer friend, Kwei Quartay, another author who writes strong character and plot driven novels that deal with social issues. Please take a look at the trailer and share it with your friends and family.
Another project I worked on these past months is a five minute film titled Sands of Oman. It is from a prose/poem I wrote a while back about the impacts of war on war correspondents. The piece first appeared in the LA Review.
In Eugene Tonight
For all my Eugene friends -- tonight, March 2nd -- I will be at the Knight Library on the University of Oregon Campus talking about fiction as a path to creating social awareness and change. The program begins at 7 PM. I hope you can join me.
Aba Gayle and Naseem to speak on the Death Penalty and Forgiveness
As many of you know the inspiration for my book came from my friend Aba Gayle who forgave the man who murdered her daughter. Both she and I will be giving presentations at this year's Methodist Federation for Social Action's Spring Meeting. The focus of the talk is "Time Kill the Death Penalty?"
The event is this Saturday, March 6th, at the First United Methodist Church in Portland. Information and registration can be found here.
Coral Gables, Florida on March 20th
For those of you who have been asking when I will be in Florida -- I will be reading from and discussing The Crying Tree at Books & Books in Coral Gables on Saturday, March 20th at 5pm. I hope to see you there.
PNBA Book Award Celebration, April 29th
I hope you will be able to join me at Anne Bloom's Books on Thursday, April 29th at 7:30 pm, when The Crying Tree will receive the 2010 Book Award. We plan to have food, wine and a brief reading. I hope to see you there!
