Greetings!
I am delighted to announce that The Crying Tree is one of eleven books shortlisted for the 2010, Pacific Northwest Booksellers Award. This is a tremendous honor, and speaks to the appreciation booksellers, librarians, and readers have for literature that addresses controversial social issues such as the death penalty, discrimination, and forgiveness.
Since its release in July, the book has been on the San Fransisco Chronicle's best seller list, and was made a Barnes and Noble Discover New Writers Pick. Book clubs have been eager to read it, and I have been invited to speak about the book at places of worship, schools, bookstores, libraries and even the Oregon State Women's Penitentiary.
I have also heard from dozens of readers -- many of whom face their own trials with hate and forgiveness, and many who have been inspired by the book. One person was moved to write a piece of music, another -- a teenager -- will be reading a scene from The Crying Tree in a statewide speech competition in Nebraska.
