Greetings!
We've got lots of birding to do, so let's get rolling.
Many of you will be shocked when you see the hill at the Celery Fields. It has been stripped of vegetation in preparation for more soil being added. The sparrows and towhees will have no habitat there for the duration of the project, and that's sad, but we have to focus on the long term. Eventually it will be much better for them. If you keep that in mind, it will get you through.
Both Pinecraft and Rothenbach parks have been sprayed recently to control exotics. Some folks are upset, but again, you must think long term. It helps to bird these areas with blinkers on at the moment and to focus on the habitat to come. And if you think of all the effort over the years at Pinecraft Park when we pulled air potato shoots and gathered potatoes, spraying may be the only way to make a dent. Pulling and gathering will still be needed though.
I'm looking forward to seeing you all out and about, at meetings, and especially at our Environmental Heroes night on November 12. Good birding!
-Jeanne Dubi, President
