| Columbia Tusculum Community Council Notes |
November CTCC Meeting Notes
The City of Cincinnati Planning Department reviewed a rezoning proposal for the McKinley School property, converting the lot from the current "limited manufacturing" zoning to "commercial neighborhood-pedstrian" (CN-P). This zoning is consistent with the properties across the street and restricts businesses on this site from using drive through lanes. A council motion passed unanimously in support of rezoning as CN-P.
MSD Engineers gave an overview of the sewer project that will address stormwater overflow during periods of heavy rainfall. The 2010 project starts on Kellogg near Riveriew East Academy and will continue up Stanley Ave to the back side of Columbia Square. We can expect to see lane closures on Stanley beginning about June, 2010.
The 2010 CTCC Steering Team was elected: President, Arlene Golembiewski, Vice Presdient, Matt Ackermann, Secretary, George Frank, Directors: Beth Fiore, Lisa Hilbert, Stephen Sayre.

Columbia Tusculum is Finalist in Mayor's You52 Video Contest
Congradulations to residents Matt Ackermann and Stephen Sayre for shooting and producing a video on Columbia Tusculum that has been selected as a finalist in the Mayor's You52 Video contest. This contest is aimed at helping the city's 52 neighborhoods promote themselves by providing coaching and support to produce U-Tube style short videos.
The top 6 finalists have been selected and forwarded to the Mayor's office for final review. Mayor Mallory will determine the winner. The Mayor's office found "the videos we received were truly exceptional and definitely display each neighborhood's creativity and individuality! " Originally planned for the winner, they've now decided all finalist videos will air on Fountain Square's big screen. The winner will also be promoted on Channel 12 News.
Matt and Stephen captured many of the Columbia Tusculum landmarks and scenes we know and love. Stayed tuned for when you -and the rest of Cincinnati - will see Columbia Tusculum in its glory on the big screen. A big thanks to Matt and Stephen for all their work on this! |

The Irish Heritage Center gets started
The Irish Heritage Center is now the proud owner of the MckInley School building. Maureen Kennedy and husband, Kent Covey, sent the note below describing how they are getting started. We've missed their weekend clean-up last week, but it's not too late to congratulate them and lend a hand over the coming months. Contact them about their Wish List. We're delighted to have them sinking their roots into our neighborhood.
"Our Irish Community now has a (potentially) beautiful 44 thousand square foot building, The Irish Heritage Center of Greater Cincinnati!
There is space for everything Irish! There is room for Theater, Music, Dance, Lectures, Classes, Clubs, Rehearsals, Art, Children's Activities, Events, Weddings, Parties, Films, Storytellers, Sing alongs, Irish Language Classes, Geneology, Glee Clubs, a Library, a Museum, etc. etc.
There are plans for a Rose of Tralee competition, an AOH Convention event in the summer of 2010, the premier of "Moll" by the famous John B. Keane February 26-27-28, 2010, and more!
The Irish Heritage Center is located at the corner of Tennyson and Eastern Avenue at 3905 Eastern Avenue at the site of the former McKinley Elementary School in Columbia-Tusculum.
The Center will be available for all who want to take an active part. Renters are warmly welcomed: This is an immediate opportunity.
Currently we are seeking contributions in the form of help in marketing and promoting, clean up & fix up volunteer time, and, if you cannot come in person, any size donation of supplies or money that will help us get going. Immediate needs will be posted at the Center in the front hallway for viewing and action! Come and visit, even if you only have an hour or two, and see what it looks like. If the mood strikes you, grab one of the "Gift with a purpose" stickers off the corkboard and sign the register with the date you will be bringing the chosen item (or its monetary equivalent) back to the Center! We hope this will be the first of many many visits you will make over the next fifty years.
Please contact Kent Covey the Managing Director of the Center, with any questions you might have now or in the future at 513-262-9932."
