WELCOME RECEPTION

We kicked off the two-day event on Wednesday, August 19th with a welcome reception co-hosted by D.A. Davidson at the Riverside Country Club for our limited partners, several Montana-based CEOs, strategic partners and special guests.

We were honored to be joined by Senator Max Baucus, Chairman of the U.S. Senate Finance Committee and leader in health care reform efforts.  In his remarks, Senator Baucus noted that reform of the health care system will continue momentum through 2009 under a revised Senate Bill, for which he is committed to building consensus.  He suspects that financial service reform initiatives will likely be tabled until 2010.  We'd like to thank Senator Baucus for his time and open dialogue of these important issues.

ALTERNATIVE ASSET ALLOCATION PANEL

The following morning we met with our limited partners to review and discuss Montlake Capital portfolio companies.  That meeting was followed by a panel discussion on Asset Allocation in today's economy, featuring:
  • David Almodovar, Vice President of the Credit Suisse Alternative Capital Group
  • Carroll South, Executive Director of the Montana Board of Investments
  • Bill Whitlow, Senior Vice President of Davidson Investment Advisors

After introductions and a historical overview of each organization, our panelists fielded questions on the impact of the new administration, industry trends, consultant relationships, inflation and current regulatory requirements.  Generally, our panelists noted that the long-term ramifications of the market contraction and economic recession have continued to affect investment climate, compounded by concerns over the ongoing global liquidity crisis.  For some investors, increased allocations to the alternative asset class have recently emerged as a strategic short-term response to the current challenges and opportunities in today's marketplace.
