Embrace Change or Not? (Fads or Necessities?)

I put it off for months.

But finally, I gave in and purchased a new phone. Can, or should we try to keep up with the latest technology?  I'm old school and thought that a phone only needs to do one thing, make a phone call.  ...Blame in on Annie Leonard and her forcefully compelling 'Story of Stuff.' Her cartoon explanation of how we are scared, seduced, and misled into buying stuff that we don't need really got me to thinking about social responsibility.   http://www.storyofstuff.com

Today I visited a Dialysis Center and watched so many (once vibrant) people being wheeled in and dropped off by medi-vans, helped in on walkers, or walking slowly by themselves or assisted by loved ones.  Three times a week they would be spending half of their day getting their blood purified on machines because their kidneys have failed. While there was an occasional smile, most seemed stoic, resigned to their fate, and devoid of energy.  The alternative however could be certain death.  Click here to continue reading about the connection between high blood pressure and dialysis.  Learn how you can avoid or help someone you love avoid this life altering fate.
What Are You On?
"Shush" "Slow down!" "Calm down!" "Indoor voice!"

"What are you on?"  As a child, I was always being shushed, told to be quiet, or to "turn it down a notch."  In order to fit in I had to walk on eggshells or continually justify myself to others.  Too often the question, "What are you on?" or its variations were asked judgmentally or negatively, as if there were something "wrong" with me for being so "energized." Or, the implications were even worse implying that I had to be "on something" or oblivious to reality to be so keyed up or overly happy. Then one day I woke up and decided that I'd embrace and value just being me.  I didn't need validation from anyone else.  That's when I started to really live with passion.  Now, I'm high on life, Are you?  We can't spend our lives trying to please or be liked by everyone. We are each unique.  It's high time we embraced who we really are.  Click on the links below to get turned on and excited about being you!
