Barbara Talley Is Back from Speaking at The BIG Conference and Is Sharing the Highlights with You!
 Dear
Whew!  I just finished giving seven presentations a week ago at the BIG Conference.  Having the opportunity to speak to so many old friends again and meet so many new ones was truly inspiring.  I'm still pumped up, so this newletter is dedicated to keeping the fire going.  I believe that the more we help others get what they want, the easier it is for our own dreams to come true.  I conducted three of my signature workshops at the Blacks in Government (BIG) Conference:  Superwoman Doesn't Live Here Anymore, On Track On Fire On Purpose, and The Polished Professional.  So, in the spirit of service, I've decided to share the highlights of the workshops with you.  Enjoy!

Superwoman Doesn't Live Here Anymore
woman exercisingThat's right, Superwoman, Doesn't  Live Here Anymore. (And, neither does Superman.) But, we all still want to look and feel super!  You understand that your body is your soul's earthly temple and have decided to respect, honor, and take better care of it.

It's a new day and a new day requires a new gameplan.  You've decided to shed the old image of being everything to everyone else at the expense of your health, dreams, and relationships.  You've acknowledged that you "can't leap tall buildings in a single bound."  You know that you can't keep going and going like the energizer bunny without consequences.  You understand that you have to take care of yourself if you are to be around to take care of those you love and are responsible for.  Remember the advice that we get from the airlines, "Put your own mask on before putting a mask on others."  We must understand that we are not machines.  Even if we were, machines get regular maintenance, re-tooled, and even refurbished when necessary.   Remember, these tips work for both men and women!    For more encouragement to take better care of yourself, view the 12 Tips for Superwomen.  Three are listed below to get you started.
  1. G+E+T what you want by managing your goals, energy, and time.  Your dreams matter too.  You are responsible for realizing your true purpose.
  2. Mark off  time for yourself in your calendar and make it sacred time.  Do it in ink! Keep reminders around you that you matter and that you have a right to say NO!   Click to listen to the Superwoman Theme Song
  3. Develop an inner circle of trusted friends that you can call upon for support, who will not judge you, and who will be honest with you.

On Track, On Fire, On Purpose
On Track Book cover by Barbara S Talley
On Track, On Fire, On Purpose discusses three essential areas for optimal career and life management: vision, values, and virtues. These three will also lead you to find your real purpose in life.  You're familiar with the sage advice, "Where there is no vision, the people perish."  You must have a vision that excites, guides, and energizes you.

Values are the reason why we do what we do.  If your why is  strong enough, you can achieve any goal.  On Track focuses on helping you to use your vision, values, and virtues to get fired up about your life.  Six criteria for defining your values are discussed in the book.  Below are some of the best ideas from the BIG Conference.   Below are some of the best ideas I touched on during the workshops.
  1. Perform CPR on your dreams.  Take your dreams off the back burner. Don't let them become your ghosts.
  2. Your "words" create your reality.  Your words are powerful.  Choose your words carefully.  Your current words summon and create your future.
  3. "Own your dreams and claim them."   Remember you have"Unclaimed grace from Genesis."  Your life is not an accident.  You are here for a purpose.
  4. No matter what your age is, you can still achieve your dreams.
  5. Have faith in yourself.  Make the promises you make to yourself just as sacred as those you make to others.
  6. Have a plan to live on purpose.  Look within to determine your purpose.  Then put your plan into action.   Consider the TALLeYUP System, if you don't have a system.  It worked for me.
  7. Stop procrastinating!  You might want to consider using the Procrastinator's Prayer and other motivating poetry in Miner Miracles to help.
  8. Acknowledge yourself daily in the mirror.
  9. Believe in yourself.  "Seeing isn't believing, believing is seeing."
  10. Life is what you make out of it.  You have the power.  Everything already exists in the thought realm.  You must have knowledge, faith, and action to reveal it.

I practice what I preach.  You have to ask in order to receive and you have to believe.  I am asking for your help so that I can stay on this track.  Please purchase a book, refer it to others if you have already purchased one, or pass on my contact information to your agency, association, special emphasis program manager, conference planner, associations, women's groups, book clubs, etc.  Thank you.  The  On Track Outline can be viewed from this link.

  • Do what you love.
  • The amount of energy you give to a goal determines how quickly it will become a realty.
  • Treat everyone with the utmost respect.  These people are in your network.
  • Your must have a goal and believe in it.  Remember, anything you ask for believing, you will achieve.
  • Affirmations are important for reinforcement.  We are creatures of habit so create habits that work for you instead of against you.
I created my  TALLeYUP System of 12 Habits to Live On Purpose.  These habits have helped me to take care of mind, body, and soul, raise six children, reinvent myself multiple times, publish six books, start my own publishing company, and write over 1,000 poems.  They are proven success tips and can help you manage yourself.  You are the greatest asset or obstacle to your dreams, self-mastery is essential.
