Continuing Education Credits
 
The LEBC is applying where practicable for one hour continuing education credit for eligible presentations with the Kentucky Bar Association, the Joint Board of the Enrollment of Actuaries, the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy, the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, and the Kentucky Department of Insurance. Forms for qualifying continuing education credits will be available at the registration table.

 

The speaker presentation for this meeting is scheduled for sixty (60) minutes and will begin as soon after 12:00 noon as practicable.

Speaker Presentation
 
James R. Raborn of Baker Botts L.L.P. will present "Benefits Potpourri."
 
Jim Raborn is partner in the national and international law firm Baker Botts L.L.P. who has practiced in all aspects of the ERISA and employee benefits area for over 30 years, including acquisitions and divestitures, business planning, fiduciary counseling, and litigation. In the area of business transactions, Mr. Raborn is closely involved in the planning and structuring of corporate or other business acquisitions and divestitures, dealing with restructuring and refinancing as well as litigation, mediation, and arbitration between or among private contestants and government agencies. Mr. Raborn as well does extensive work on fiduciary matters, including representation of independent fiduciaries and plan sponsors in litigation relating to their obligations to employee benefit plans and their participants. He regularly advises employers and plan fiduciaries regarding the design, establishment, operation and termination of leveraged and unleveraged employee stock ownership plans (ESOPs). In the area of executive compensation, Mr. Raborn helps clients establish and manage executive compensation plans and arrangements, as well as negotiate and draft employment and severance agreements with senior executives of publicly traded and privately held companies.

 

Mr. Raborn is admitted to the State Bar of Texas, the Louisiana State Bar, and to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Texas, and the United States District Court for the District of Colorado. He is a member of the American Bar Association's Tax Section (Past Chair of the Employee Benefits Committee and Vice Chair of the Committee on Government Submissions; 1998-2002; 2007-present); a Charter Fellow of the American College of Employee Benefits Counsel; a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel; and a Past Chairman of the Tax Research Association of Harris County. Mr. Raborn is and has long been listed in The Best Lawyers in America, and has been recognized as a Texas Super Lawyer (one of the "Top 100 Texas Super Lawyers," 2008). He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1974 from the Hebert Law Center of Louisiana State University (Order of the Coif, Member, Louisiana Law Review), having earlier, in 1968, received his Bachelor of Arts in Journalism from Louisiana State University. Between college and law school, Mr. Raborn served in the United States Air Force, attaining the rank of Captain.

Meeting & Guest Policies

You are invited to attend all LEBC monthly luncheon and presentation meetings as well as LEBC Sub-Council meetings.

The monthly luncheon meetings are the second Tuesday of the month and begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and a time for networking and socializing. Lunch will be served at Noon. Speaker presentations begin at approximately 12:15 p.m. Meetings will conclude no later than 1:30 p.m. 

Guests are welcome at our monthly luncheon meetings for a fee of $50. Add your guest information to the RSVP, or notify the Membership Chair:

Sub-Council meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month and begin at 12 noon. Cost for attending these meetings is $40 for members who did not sign up with their annual dues and $50 for guests.  
If you would like to attend a Sub-Council meeting, RSVP through the newsletter and pay at the door when you arrive for the meeting.

**No-shows are a recurring problem and continue to adversely affect the LEBC's efforts to manage expenses.**   

The Marriott charges the LEBC for all reservations made and not cancelled by noon on the Friday immediately prior to the Luncheon.
