Continuing Education Credits
 
The LEBC is applying where practicable for one hour continuing education credit for eligible presentations with the Kentucky Bar Association, the Joint Board of the Enrollment of Actuaries, the Kentucky State Board of Accountancy, the American Society of Pension Professionals & Actuaries, and the Kentucky Department of Insurance. Forms for qualifying continuing education credits will be available at the registration table.

James McElligott of McGuireWoods LLP will present "Legal Ethics and the Attorney-Client Privilege in Employee Benefits Matters."
 
James P. McElligott Jr. is a partner in the national and international law firm of McGuire Woods LLP. Mr. McElligott advises and defends private and publicly held corporations, public agencies, benefit plans and fiduciaries concerning employee benefits, executive compensation, breach of fiduciary duty (including stock drop class actions), multiemployer plans and withdrawal liability, retirement medical, benefits in bankruptcy, Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC) issues, Sarbanes-Oxley, COBRA, HIPAA, and WARN Act matters.

Mr. McElligott has an active trial and arbitration practice, is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Attorneys, and is listed in Who's Who in American Law, Best Lawyers in America, Chambers USA Guide to Leading Lawyers, Virginia Business Legal Elite, and Super Virginia Lawyers.

Mr. McElligott regularly publishes and lectures on employment, benefits, and compensation issues. He has been interviewed in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Baltimore Sun, Daily Labor Reporter, Pension and Benefits Week, Computer Law, Tax Report, CBS Business Watch, Business Insurance, Chicago Sun Times, Richmond Times-Dispatch, MicroSoft Network, WashTech.com, Employment and Labor Lawcast, and other publications.

Mr. McElligott received his Bachelor of Arts, with Highest Honors, from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, Illinois, in 1970, and his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from Harvard Law School, Cambridge, Massachusetts, in 1973. He is admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court, the Supreme Court of Virginia, the United States Courts of Appeal for the Fourth and Sixth Circuits, the United States District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the United States Tax Court.

Richard E. Goldstein, MD, PhD, MHCM, FACS,  Vice Dean for Clinical Affairs, University of Louisville School of Medicine, is tentatively scheduled to present on Accountable Care Organizations. Please be alert for an update on this presentation in the Sub-Council Newsletter appearing in mid-June.

Meeting & Guest Policies

You are invited to attend all LEBC monthly luncheon and presentation meetings as well as LEBC Sub-Council meetings.

The monthly luncheon meetings are the second Tuesday of the month and begin at 11:30 a.m. with registration and a time for networking and socializing. Lunch will be served at Noon. Speaker presentations begin at approximately 12:15 p.m. Meetings will conclude no later than 1:30 p.m. 

Guests are welcome at our monthly luncheon meetings for a fee of $50. Add your guest information to the RSVP, or notify the Membership Chair:

Sub-Council meetings are the fourth Tuesday of the month and begin at 12 noon. Cost for attending these meetings is $40 for members who did not sign up with their annual dues and $50 for guests.  
If you would like to attend a Sub-Council meeting, RSVP through the newsletter and pay at the door when you arrive for the meeting.

Please note that members are asked to confirm their attendance at all meetings.  

**No-shows are a recurring problem and continue to adversely affect the LEBC's efforts to manage expenses.**   

The Marriott charges the LEBC for all reservations made and not cancelled by noon on the Friday immediately prior to the Luncheon.

Great Lakes Benefits Conference, Chicago, June 23-24, 2011

 

As a reminder, the LEBC is a Cooperating Sponsor of the 2011 Great Lakes Benefits Conference, to be held at the Hotel Allegro in Chicago on June 23-24.
