Grammar Update

Spirit Day on Friday

Just a quick reminder that grammar students should wear their ECCS Spirit Day tee-shirt, jeans or Capris and tennis shoes tomorrow for Spirit Day. We ask for tennis shoes or uniform shoes only due to the amount of running and playing the grammar students do on the playground. Thank you for your support of the grammar policies.

Socks for Soldiers

Grammar Students will once again participate in the Socks for Soldiers drive beginning on Veteran's Day, November 11, and ending on December 18th. We ask each student to donate a multi-pack of men's white crew socks in lieu of a gift exchange in the classroom. These socks will be sent to our soldiers on active duty.  We know you will give generously to our troops in active duty. Thank you!

Logic & Rhetoric School Updates

Spirit Day this Friday!

We'll be having a Spirit Day this Friday and a pep rally at 2:00.  The Varsity football team will be playing in the conference championship this Friday at 7:00 at the Pelham High School stadium.  We hope everyone can come out to support the team.

The White Thread Now Available on Kindle and Amazon.com

Mrs. Ballstadt's long-awaited book is now available on Kindle in e-book form and from www.createspace.com/3661002 and Amazon.com in hard copy.  In addition, Mrs. Ballstadt will have copies available in a few weeks. We are planning a book signing party and will be sending details about that soon. The book is already getting rave reviews from the students and parents who have read it. We are so grateful to have such a wonderful author on our faculty and hope everyone will get a copy of the book.  Also, once you read it, please post your reviews on Amazon.  Let's spread the word about this great series of books!

Calling Girl Basketball Players

Girls in grades 7-12 who are interested in playing basketball for ECS need to contact Coach Letson at kennethletson@yahoo.com or 335-5365. Practice for the season has started, but we are still in need of players, so there is still time to sign up.

Socks for Soldiers

ECCS L & R Students will be participating in the Socks for Soldiers drive now through Veteran's Day on November 11. Any students who can are asked to donate a multi-pack of men's white crew socks. These socks will be sent to our soldiers on active duty.  We hope to have, like last year, a good number of socks to donate to this important cause.

NJCL UPDATES

The NJCL is a vital, active club on campus for all students in grades 6-12 to enjoy.  Not only is our NJCL chapter hosting  the state convention this year, but our officers have also been working hard since back in the summer to arrange fun activities that promote fellowship and celebration of our love of the antiquities.  Here are some upcoming events that you might enjoy with the NJCL:

November 5:

For all new and returning NJCL members, the annual NJCL initiation ceremony has been reschedule to November 5th at Joe Tucker Park in Helena. The costume theme this year is "The Trojan War" chosen to correspond with the spring convention theme.  The time has not been set yet--listen to the morning announcements for further details from the NJCL officers.

April 13-14:

For all NJCL members: Alabama Junior Classical League's 57th annual state convention at Samford University (hosted by ECCS!).  As every year, there will be costs involved with attending (TBD), so start saving your money if you wish to attend the Convention this year.  We hope to have the strongest contingent at this year's convention!

Has your student made a difference by volunteering in the last year?

Each year, Prudential and the National Association of Secondary School Principals present the Spirit of Community Awards. Any 5th through 12th grader who has volunteered in their communities since September 1, 2010, is eligible. State honorees receive $1,000, a medallion and an all-expense-paid trip with a parent or guardian to Washington D.C., in May, 2012, for recognition events.

Applications must be completed online by November 1, 2011. For more information and to apply, go to www.spirit.prudential.com or contact Mrs. Kristi Blackwell at kblackwell@evangelclassical.org.

ACT TESTING

Sophomores are all strongly encouraged to take the ACT on or before the June, 2012 date.  All juniors should be actively working toward obtaining the ACT score they desire, with a goal of having it accomplished by the summer of 2012.  Seniors, there is still time at some of the schools to which you applied to get a score high enough to achieve the next scholarship level.  Check out all the test dates and registration deadlines at www.act.org.  When you sign up, remember our school code is 010-028.

Evangel Mother's Day Out & Preschool
