General Updates |
JENNY COMBS IS ECCS'S FIRST NATIONAL MERIT SEMI-FINALIST
Congratulations to Jenny Combs, our first ever National Merit Semi-Finalist! This honor is one of the highest that a high school student can earn, marking a significant milestone for both Jenny and for ECCS. Only the top 16,000 students of the 1.2 million who took the PSAT as juniors last October were named National Merit Semi-Finalists. We know you will all join us in prayer for Jenny as she completes the final application process. Finalists will be named next spring, and many of them will be awarded monetary scholarships from the National Merit program.
EVANGEL LIGHTNING FOOTBALL TEAMS BOTH UNDEFEATED!
Congratulations to the Varsity and Junior Varsity football teams for both being undefeated! Last week's varsity home game at the Pelham High School stadium was great fun. Turnonout was great, and the fellowship was better. We'll be playing there again this Friday at 7:00. Hope to see you there.
ROOFING WORK TO BEGIN ON EVANGEL CHURCH
Construction will begin on roof repairs to the shingled sections of the church building on September 12th and continue for approximately nine weeks. We ask that everyone observe signage and avoid the construction area. Security fencing, car-line instructions, and other signage will be installed. We ask that everyone observe all security and construction signage, use cross-walks, and drive extra carefully during this time. The Logic and Rhetoric morning and afternoon car lines will both be affected. We respectfully ask that parents follow all the directions exactly as given to ensure the safety of all our students, including student drivers. Maps and instruction sheets will go home with students on 9/8. If your child did not bring a sheet home, please come by the office on Friday afternoon to pick one up or call the office for us to send another copy home with your student.
AFTER-HOURS CARE
Due to the roofing repairs, all After-Hours Care pick-up will be downstairs at the grammar entrance beginning on Monday, September 12th.

Especially for new parents, but also for those looking to reconnect, come find out where to get plugged in and who has the answers to your questions about ECCS. Find out ways to support the school and what PTF has planned for the year. It's also a great time to visit the Principals and have some light refreshments.
Two convenient times: Tuesday, September 20th at 8:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m. Choose the one that best fits your schedule and put it on your calendar. Stay tuned for more information!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED
How will your family contribute a minimum of five volunteer hours this year? Will you help in the morning car line as a "car door opener?" Will you help with the October 1st Fall Festival? Sheri Garrett is glad to help you connect with ECCS!
Thinking that you really don't know how or where you can help? One of our long time parents, Marilyn Smith, is also looking for parents to join her in praying for our school and our students. She is looking for a parent to head up the prayer efforts for the year. Interested? Contact Marilyn directly at m.home@charter.net.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS NEEDED
Have you ever thought about teaching but do not want a full-time job? ECCS is in need of "a few good men--or women" who are interested in and have the basic skill set to substitute teach. Short applications are required. If you are interested, please speak with Mrs. McKee or Mrs. Bell for details. |

NJCL
There is an exciting academic club for your child at ECCS. All students in the logic and Rhetoric schools are eligible to join the ECCS chapter of the National Junior Classical League (NJCL). This is a fun-filled club that tries to encourage an interest in and appreciation of the languages, literature, and cultures of ancient Greece and Rome and to impart an understanding of our own cultures debt to classical antiquity. Although Latin is a big part of the NJCL, there is no requirement that your child be enrolled in a Latin class or that your child have a good grade in Latin. The NJCL is especially about encouraging students to love learning and to have fun with classical studies even Latin!
Student officers and faculty sponsors have planned exciting opportunities and events for this year such as: classical-themed outings, spoken-Latin excursions, service projects, parties, and the state convention in the spring. Last year around 400 Latin students from all around the state participated in two days of competitions, banquets, athletics, and celebrations. This year the ECCS chapter will be hosting the state convention at Samford University. This is a fantastic opportunity for ECCS and a lot of work. If you are interested in serving as a parent volunteer for any of our NJCL outings or the spring convention, please contact Mr. Caucutt at tcaucutt@evangelclassical.org.
Membership dues are $20 and help to pay for these exciting events, a club t-shirt, state, and national dues. Please make checks payable to ECCS (with NJCL in the memo line) and drop them off at the front desk. The early membership deadline closes next week: Friday, September 16th
