Grammar School Updates | |
WELCOME NEW GRAMMAR STUDENTS!
We are happy to welcome all the grammar students to ECCS for a new and exciting year! We have 24 new Kindergartners, 30 first graders, 32 in each of the second, third, and fourth grades, and 31 fifth graders--181 grammar students in all! What a great group! The teachers have been bragging on their good behavior all week and the students have arrived eager to learn new things everyday. We thank God for His faithfulness to us and for each child and parent.
GRAMMAR PLAYGROUND READY FOR NEW YEAR
A special thanks goes to Micah Hoge for choosing the restoration of the ECCS playground as his Eagle Scout project. Micah and many of his family and friends spread five loads of new pine bark on the play surface, constructed a new walkway, and repaired the fencing. The playground looks like new and is beautifully restored thanks to this group of hard working scouts. Among those who helped accomplish this herclean task were Micah Hoge, Mrs. Hoge, Caleb Hoge, Adam Bell, Grace Beasley, Matt Taube, Cameron Tyler, Andrew Collins, Chandler Rocket, Zach Helton, Jonathan Rochester, Seth Baylis, Luke Baylis, and Mrs. Baylis. Thank you all for a job well done!

In addition to the restorations to the playground, we want to thank the PTF for a beautiful new pavillion! The pavillion was constructed over the past few weeks and now provides much needed shade for the grammar playground. Teachers and students alike have enjoyed it each day--THANK YOU, PTF!

Logic & Rhetoric School Updates

Italian Ice on Tuesdays!
The SGA is sponsoring Italian Ice on Tuesdays from Carmella's. Each Tuesday, Carmella's will bring one to three flavors of Italian Ice, and ECCS L & R students may purchase a serving after lunch. These tasty treats are just $2, and the SGA will receive a portion of the proceeds, which they will use to fund social events and activities for the student body. Next Tuesday will be the first Italian Ice day, and students who wish to purchase it should bring $2 in cash, exact change only. This is optional, of course, and the SGA hopes that the students will enjoy!
Back to School Luau The Back to School Dance, which is being planned jointly by the Logic and Rhetoric School SGA's is this Saturday, August 20. The Logic School dance will be from 5:00-7:30, and the Rhetoric School Dance will be from 7:30-10:00. Officers from both SGA's will be on duty during both dances. All Rhetoric School students who can are encouraged to stay and help during cleanup from 10:00-10:30.
This is our fifth annual Back to School Dance, and it is always great fun even though all the planning takes place during the first week of school. In past years we have had Sock Hops and Barn Dances, which have required more work thinking about what to wear. This year, the SGA wanted a theme that would allow for lighter clothing due to the heat, as well as a theme that would be easy for kids to dress for. So they decided upon the Back to School Luau. Simply wear something bright! Normal dress code rules apply--modesty is our goal. Girls should not wear anything strapless, anything too low cut, anything too tight or too short (no shorter than one inch above knee). For this social, we ask that girls who wear skirts also wear shorts underneath, as there may be games that are played that cause them to sit on the floor, run, etc. Also, please wear comfortable shoes, as the students will need to keep them on during the dance to prevent injury.
The students have had such a good time in the upper school over the past four years learning and participating in ballroom, swing, and line dancing. We have watched it build confidence in both our young men and women, and it has been a great way for kids to socialize across the grades. Please encourage your sixth graders and new students to come, even if they are a little intimidated by the idea of dancing. A selected, limited number of Rhetoric students will be on hand during the Logic School Dance to teach the sixth graders dance moves, as they did at Popsicles on the Playground.
We have some teacher chaperones already lined up, but we always need parent chaperones as well. We also need a few parents and students who are willing to come at 1:00 to the gym to help the SGA members decorate for the dance. Thanks so much to Mrs. Kelly Davis, who has already helped by beginning to collect decorations. Contact Mrs. Parks ( kparks@evangelclassical.org) if you wish to help decorate or chaperone or if you have luau supplies we could borrow or have for the dance. We welcome sixth grade parents or parents of new students who have questions about our socials to come and observe and / or chaperone for part or all of the dance. Tickets are $5 and should be purchased at the door. All proceeds will to the SGA funds (split between Logic and Rhetoric) to help provide for other events and to help defray costs associated with our biggest two social events, the Cotillion (Logic) and the Protocol Dance (Rhetoric).
This year, the SGA also wants to associate giving with our socials as well. Therefore, they are asking the Logic and Rhetoric school students to consider donating $1 above the ticket price of $5 to the SGA's effort to collect money for a gift card to contribute to the Love Your Neighbor Scrip program. This extra dollar donation is completely optional. Students can donate more or less as they feel led. The SGA treasurers will purchase the gift card on behalf of the ECCS student body and send it to the Love Your Neighbor coordinator Mrs. Blankenship next week.
Sixth Grade: A Great Beginning
We have had a great start to sixth grade. Thanks so much to the parents for your support and encouragement. The sixth graders are getting the hang of things and will be "old pros" in a couple of weeks. We know that they are struggling with some issues, like lockers and getting to class with needed materials, but they are coming along really well. We are so pleased with their progress and so delighted to have them in our classes. We do ask that parents not enter the hallways with their sixth graders in the mornings. The students need to learn to manage their early morning preparation time by themselves, and our teachers need that time to fellowship with the students and get ready for their days. If you need to contact a teacher, you can email or call the office and leave a message, and they will get back to you as soon as they can.
House Placement Ceremony
The House Placement Ceremony was held on Tuesday morning, and now all sixth graders and new students have been placed in one of the six Houses. Our prayer is that these students will be welcomed, befriended, and mentored by their fellow-house members, and that they will enjoy the fun and fellowship. Congratulations to sixth grader Jessie Davis, who guessed closest to the actual number of M & M's in the big jar we had out during Open Door. Domus Avium was really excited to get her and those 3957 M & M's!
Blessed Beyond Measure
The faculty and staff in the L & R school would like to express our overwhelming gratitude to our students, parents, and alumni for the outpouring of love and support you have shown us in the weeks leading up to and during this first week of school. As teachers, we all feel so blessed to be working with this group of students and to have the support of this group of parents. There are simply no words for how blessed we are by you. ECCS truly is a special place.
