CLASSICAL CONNECTION

The Classical Connection is Wednesday and Thursday, April 13th and 14th. This is our way of presenting to the public an overview of Evangel Classical Christian School. Classical education is a new concept for most, and the Classical Connection is an excellent tool for communicating the classical methodology.

Many parents are looking for school options as our educational climate changes. We feel ECCS can be the answer for they are looking for. Classical Connection postcards, which will be sent home this week, are for you to share with friends, neighbors and family members who have or will have school aged children. Word of mouth is our greatest advertisement and the postcards can be nice conversation starters for you to tell your ECCS story. There are more postcards available in the offices, and the detailed time schedule is on our website, www.evangelclassical.org, if you'd like to direct friends thereThanks for supporting ECCS!

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES AT ECCS FOR 2011-2012

ECCS is looking for part and/or full time faculty in Bible, History, Literature, Latin, Spanish and Grammar for the 2011-2012 school year.  Applications can be picked up from our office or downloaded from the website.

SESAT REMINDER

Next week, March 28-April 1, your child will be given the Stanford Achievement Test. We ask that you make every effort to have him/her in class by 8:00. It is important that each child have a good night's sleep as well as a full breakfast each day. Please schedule any appointments after school hours.  A minimum of homework and tests will be given during this week. Spirit Day is on Friday!

CLASS GROUP PICTURES ON SALE NOW!

Order forms for your student(s)' class group picture went home with students last week.  You may view the actual class groups in the front offices (L&R upstairs and Grammar downstairs.)  The deadline to order has been extended to Monday, March 28th.  Please disregard the 3/15 due date on the order envelopes.

FYI-SPRING PICTURES ARE MONDAY, APRIL 4TH!

Spring pictures allow families the opportunity to have their childrens' pictures made in their Easter clothes.  Grammar students should come dressed in dressy casual attire, no jeans or flip flops, and have the option to change out of dressy dresses and shoes after pictures are made if they choose to do so.  All Logic and Rhetoric students should come prepared to change back into uniforms after their pictures are taken first thing that morning.

Grammar Updates

Car Line Reminders

As we enter the last quarter of school, please be reminded that ECCS parents should access morning and afternoon car lines by using the ECCS entrance, NOT the church entrance from Thompson Road nor the back entrance of the parking lot.  As we all go about our busy day, please do not "break" line by breaking the established car line route established at the beginning of the school year.

In order that we receive the victor's crown, we must compete according to the rules.  2 Timothy 2:5.

Uniform and Hair Code Reminders

Parents, please keep a watch on the uniform and hair requirements for the remainder of the school year. Please do not be lax on meeting those requirements and in training the children to always obey the rules. The grammar boys hair should be cut above the ears, above the eyebrows, and off the collar. Please note that "no-show" socks not are allowed for boys or girls.

Thank you for helping the students finish strong and end the school year well!

Logic & Rhetoric School Updates

 Spring Protocol This Friday!

Our second annual Spring Protocol is this Friday night. We will dismiss the L & R school at 1:00 so that the teachers and students can prepare for the big night.  The Protocol will begin at 6:30. Thanks so much to all the parents who are working hard even as this is being written to decorate the gym for the event.

Alabama Junior Classical League State Convention April 1st & 2nd @ Samford University

Thanks to all parents and students who have already registered for the year's convention and thanks also to the student officers of our Junior Classical League chapter who managed the business with such efficiency and success. They have done a splendid job!

Any parents who are interested in serving as drivers or chaparones on Friday, April 1st from 1:30 pm - 11:30 pm, from would be greatly appreciated. As a mark of gratitude, our JCL chapter will pay all convention fees for a limited number of drivers/chaparones. Fun & games, a grand feast, the company of the best behaved students in Alabama, and the firsthand opportunity to see our students excel in statewide competitions are all included gratis.

In other news, the JCL officers have approved a t-shirt design created by John Mark Carter. The design was inspired by the myth of Jason and the Golden Fleece, which is this year's state convention theme, and will be entered alongside t-shirt designs from other schools in Alabama. Last year our JCL chapter won the t-shirt design contest, and we hope to do so again with John Mark Carter's excellent design. Will we win? Come to the convention and find out! In the meantime, students who wish to sport the new t-shirts ($15) may begin placing orders with Zach Shackleford, our JCL treasurer. Students do not have to be members of the JCL, nor do they have to be attending the convention to purchase a t-shirt.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact JCL consuls David Baggett and Charlie Bell, or JCL sponsors Miss Montgomery and Mr. Caucutt.

SAT's Next Week

The 6th-9th graders will take SAT's in the mornings next Monday through Thursday.  We will run a revised schedule during the afternoons so that the students attend each class over a two day span.  Sophomores and Juniors will attend ACT prep sessions during the SAT testing times, and Seniors have been provided with a revised class schedule during the SAT testing times.

April ACT Registration Deadline May 6
Juniors who have not yet achieved the ACT score they desire and who are not registered to take the test this April are strongly encouraged to sign up for the June 11 ACT test.  The deadline for registration is May 6.  Sophomores who have not yet taken the test (and who are not registered to take it in April) are strongly encouraged to take the June test also.
