LAST WEEK FOR SIX FLAGS TICKETS!

The Six Flags Read to Succeed program offers free admission tickets to students who complete six hours of recreational reading from now until the deadline of Monday, February 28th.  Those who earn tickets will be awarded their free ticket at Awards Day on the last day of school.

TUESDAY, FEB. 22ND IS PATRIOTIC DAY!
Since we will be out of school on President's Day, we will celebrate at school on Tuesday!  ECCS 6th-12 graders are invited to come dressed as Presidents or First Ladies, or they may simply dress in patriotic colors (jeans, tennis shoes or other closed-toe, closed-heel shoes).  Grammar students are invited to wear patriotic colors (red, white, and blue!) on Tuesday, February 22nd. With this beautiful warm weather we have had, blue jeans and a comfortable tee-shirt with tennis shoes will be great attire in which to celebrate our Presidents and the great USA! We will have fun celebrating our nation and the leaders that God has raised up for us since our founding and we will pray for our President and other current national leaders.  We ask that all our parents join us in prayer on Tuesday for our nation's future.

SCRIP CHALLENGE
Scrip is so easy, I challenge each Evangel family to give it a try at least once.  You are spending money on gas anyway.  Why not order a couple of gas cards?  If you are spending $300/month on gas and you use all of that on scrip, you will earn $72/year in rebates...on gas alone!  Ask me other easy ways to earn money with scrip.

WALK-A-THON UPDATE

Parents, please help your children address and mail the brochures or use the online version here.  Please mark your calendars and plan to help transport students to Veterans Park- grammar room moms and Mrs. Parks will be contacting families soon.  Will you help?

Let's make this the most successful Walk-a-Thon ever!

RECOGNITION ADS AVAILABLE FOR YEARBOOK
Do you have a graduating senior? Do you have a 5th grader promoting to Logic school? Do you just want to show your child how special they are? A recognition ad in the Yearbook is a great way to do just that! Recognition ad order forms were sent home last week in Grammar folders and emails to Logic and Rhetoric families. All you need to do is fill out the form and return it to the school with your payment. A Yearbook staffer will contact you to design your ad. Support the Yearbook and your child by purchasing a recognition ad for the 2011 Trivium.
Logic & Rhetoric School Updates

Many thanks to our wonderful Logic and Rhetoric School parents.  So many of you have volunteered this month--from working on the Cotillion to driving on multiple field trips to helping out with our Service Day this week.  Words alone cannot express the gratitude we feel for the volunteer work that you do not only to help our school function day in and day out, but also to provide the means and the manpower for those special events like the Cotillion to happen.  I have been overwhelmed this month by the support, encouragement, and help that we have recieved as a faculty and staff from our parents. Thanks so much! --Melissa Bell

Cotillion Pictures Coming Soon!  We'll send details on how to access the Cotillion pictures online as soon as they are uploaded and ready for viewing!  Look for a Cotillion re-cap in the next issue of The Odyssey newsletter.

Second Annual Senior Thesis Disputatio

On the evening of Monday, March 7, our seniors will continue with a tradition begun last year; they will present and defend their senior theses before an audience and a panel of adjudicators.  The presentation and defense of the senior thesis represents the culmination of these students' studies at ECCS.  This year their thesis topics range from C.S. Lewis's use of parable to marriage as a reflection of the Trinity to the oppressiveness of major religions on women to the effects of technological advancements in warfare. The seniors began work on this project during their junior year, and they have worked tirelessly to ensure that the thesis itself, as well as the presentation and defense of it, accurately, eloquently, and gracefully reflect the passion and perseverance required to complete such a project.

The event will begin promptly at 5:30 in the Evangel Sanctuary and is open to all adults and students grades six and up. (Younger students are welcome, of course, but the event will be several hours long, and the topics hard for younger children to understand.)  Please join us for this special event as we celebrate with these seniors the culmination of their study of Rhetoric.

Much Ado About Nothing

The ECCS Rhetoric School Drama Class, under the direction of Mrs. Kathy Houser, has been working hard on Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing all year. They will present the play on Friday and Saturday nights, February 25 and 26 at 7:00 p.m., and we hope that the entire ECCS family will turn out to see what promises to be another spectacular performance.  Admission is free, and we ask you to invite your friends and neighbors to attend.

National Latin Exam

The National Latin Exam will be administered to all 6th through 12th grade students on Monday, February 28.  Students need to get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast.

Friday Dance Lessons to Continue Until Protocol
Eighth-twelfth graders are invited to dance lessons each Friday from 3:30-4:30.  If you are brining a guest from outside ECCS to the Protocol Dance, your guest is welcome to attend the Friday dance lessons!

Protocol Invitations Distributed!
Invitations to the Second Annual Protocol Dance have been distributed, and tickets will go on sale next week.  Mrs. Parks is working hard on plans for the event, and it promises to be a great one!

April ACT Registration Deadline Approaching
To avoid a late fee for registering for the April 9th ACT test, you must register by March 4.  The ECCS ACT Code is 010-028.  Any sophomores who have not yet taken the ACT should consider taking it in April or June.  Any juniors who have not yet achieved the score they desire should take the ACT in either April or June.  While grades 6-9 take the SAT's during the week of March 28, the sophomores and juniors will have ACT prep sessions.  Freshmen, whose SAT's are shorter than those of grades 6-8, will have at least one day of ACT prep as well.

Countdown to Greece / Turkey
We are less than a month away from our third overseas trip.  Our biggest foreign travel group ever will be departing for Greece and Turkey on March 13 and will return on March 23.  Please join us in prayer for their safe travel.
