The Lost Method: How Does It Work?

by The Ambrose Group

Thousands of parents are rediscovering what education can mean. Rather than assuming a full classroom, a good teacher, and 7 hours at school equates to "education," these parents realize that what happens in those 7 hours matters. Read the rest of the article here

Thank-You Letter from Soldiers

This year, in lieu of Christmas gift exchanges between students, ECCS students donated over 1,223 pair of white crew socks, and along with the Blue Star Mothers of Alabama and other area schools, shipped them to soldiers oversees. We are so thankful for your generosity and know you will enjoy reading the following letter of thanks which was sent ECCS students and their families:

My name is RP2 Whitrock.  I am the assistant to the Chaplain for 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines.  We just arrived in Afghanistan and have finished our turnover with Unit 2/6.  As I was speaking with the 2/6 Chaplain, he mentioned that socks were an extremely hot item here in the Chapel Care Package Center.  I didn't think much of his comment until I saw marine after marine after marine coming in here asking for socks.  I saw about 200 hundred pairs fly out the doors over a period of a week.  Just as we were running out of socks, we got another mail delivery with more boxes from the wonderful Blue Star Mothers of Alabama.  As I opened the first box to replenish the supply, I found a letter and read it.  I was quite impressed that such a small thing as socks could be such a support to these marines and sailors-  to see their faces light up when they see "Socks."  I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your care and support to me and all these guys out here.  THANK YOU Blue Star Mothers of Alabama, Chapter 1, and the students of Evangel Classical Christian School in Alabaster, Alabama.  It's people like you that make it a pleasure to serve the United States.

Very Respectfully,

ECCS Students Attend Gubernatorial Ball

Two ECCS families had the pleasure of attending the 2011 inauguration of Governor Robert Bentley on January 17th. ECCS students Nathan Brasher (5th grade), Ella Brasher (fourth grade), along with their parents Virgil and Christy Brasher attended an exquisite formal dinner and dance. Jesse (5th grade) and Jon Conner (7th grade) and their parents Jonathan and Kelly Davis also attended the formal events. They were impressed with the pageantry of the event and honored to be a part of this historical Alabama event.

Third Graders Experience Olympics!

In third grade we learn about Greece. On Olympic Day we had foot races, chariot races, the long jump, relay races and the javelin throw. The relay races made us tired and hungry! The long jump is kind of hard and you have to balance. The foot races are kind of slippery and some people slipped around. The chariot races are easy and fun because we got to hop, run, skip, gallop, and lots more! The javelin throw is hard because the models are flimsy and bendable. My favorites are the relay race and foot race.

I loved Olympic Day! ~Emma Popinski

They also enjoyed a snack of fruits and nuts.

ELISE HELTON WINS SHELBY COUNTY SPELLING BEE

Tensions ran high on Friday, January 21st as fifteen 6th, 7th, and 8th graders from area schools gathered at the Shelby County Board of Education building in Columbiana for the Shelby County Spelling Bee competition. Student representatives came from Briarwood Christian, Calera Middle, Chelsea Middle, Columbiana Middle, Cornerstone Christian, Helena Middle, Bruno Montessori Academy, Montevallo Middle, Oak Mtn. Middle, Our Lady of the Valley, Riverchase Middle Thompson Middle, Thompson Sixth, Westminster School, and Evangel Classical Christian School.

One by one, students were eliminated as the rounds of challenging words continued, but one student met the challenges with steady and consistent success. With great poise and concentration, Evangel's 8th grade Elise Helton came out on top and was named winner of the bee! Elise will represent Shelby County and ECCS well at the upcoming state competition in February. We are so proud of you, Elise!

First runner up, Molly Brown; Winner, Elise Helton
