Announcing the Release of The Oracle

The Oracle CoverMrs. Karin Ballstadt Introduces the Second in The Gateway Chronicles Series:  The Oracle

The story of Darcy Pennington and her five friends continue in the summer before their freshman year as they head back to Cedar Cove Family Camp to embark upon the adventure that comes to them.  A return to Cedar Cove also means a return to Alitheia for "the six"; however, this year the challenges are greater, the stakes higher, and Darcy will learn what sacrifice really means.

We know that many of Mrs. Ballstadt's readers have been anxiously awaiting the sequel to last year's The Six, and we are pleased to announce that it is now available for purchase.  You can order it on Amazon, or we have copies available for purchase at the school.  The books are $14.00 each.  We have a limited supply of both The Oracle and The Six (with its new cover designed by ECCS students). Mrs. Ballstadt will be available from 5:00-6:45 in the lobby before the December 9th Christmas PTF program to sign copies.  Books will be sold on a first come, first serve basis, and are available at both school offices.  Checks should be made out to ECCS.

As she did last year, Mrs. Ballstadt will be donating a portion of the proceeds of book sales through the school to the Capital Campaign.  The Oracle has gotten rave reviews thus far, and we are so thrilled and thankful to have such a talented author on our faculty!

Fall Festival Thank-yous

This year's Fall Festival raised more money ($5,500) than any in the past thanks to the most successful silent auction ever, delicious grill lunches, jail, jousting, and ticket sales.  The Beta Club logic and rhetoric students continue to be praised and appreciated by all of the ECCS families who were allowed the precious time with their small children.  We thank OneVoice for their leading us in the presence of the Lord through their performance.  Thank you to Martha (PTF VP) and Greg Earwood who were the eyes and ears of service in leading our young people throughout the day, thanks to the parents who set up, broke down, ran concessions and helped fill in the gaps alongside the students to make the day a blast! Thank you, Traci Allen, Karla Long, and Kent Herndon for all of your coordination, planning, and just down right hard work as well!

We appreciate donations made by C&A Coffees, Mr. Danny Ellis, and ACTEK.

We encourage our families to shop with and thank the local vendors and businesses who made this year's success with the silent auction possible:

Dr. Dan LeBlanc, Gold's Gym, Fossil, Paul's, Bama Fever, Bob Green Optical, Redrock Paintball, Ruby Tuesday, Yogurt Mountain, YMCA, FireHouse Subs, Dr. Thomas Dudney, Express, Halvoline, Anthony's, Issis & Sons, J. Allen's, Amen Corner, Some to the Waters, McWane, SnoBiz, Birmingham Barons, Domino's, Jim N Nick's, Rave, Jennifer Van Doren (seamstress), Delilah Hooten (Cakes by Delilah), Julia Hankins (artist), Jeani Atkison, Heitschmidt family, Tonya Lewis (Creative Memories), Glenda Norris (artist), Vickie Wilkins (Mary Kay), Papa Johns, Oak Mountain Lanes, Alabama Symphony Orchestra, Bill's Custom Framing, Dr. Boggin, Alabama Adventure, Kevin Derryberry Ministries, Joe's Donuts, Aldridge Gardens, Timberline Country Club, Joe's Italian, and TCBY.
Grammar Update
Congratulations to Mrs. Plaster's first grade class.  Their "pampering" basket raised the most money at this year's Fall Festival silent auction.  They will enjoy free Kona Ice on Monday's team spirit day.  Enjoy!
Logic & Rhetoric School Updates
Andrew Parker in BCT's Best Christmas Pageant Ever
Our very own Andrew Parker is playing Ralph Herdman in the Birmingham Children's Theater's production of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, and we are so excited that our seventh graders are going to be able to attend to see their classmate perform.  We know that many more of you would also like to attend, so we wanted to alert you to the following weekend performances:

Sunday, December 5th at 2:00 and Saturday, December 11 at 2:00 and 6:00.  We also learned that at some point tickets for this performance will be on sale for 4 for $20.00.  In order to learn more about this offer and take advantage of it, you have to go to livingsocial.com and sign up for their "Deal of the Day."  Of course, we hope that the performances will be sold out and that as many people as possible get to see Andrew perform.

Christmas Masquerade December 4
On Saturday, December 4, ECCS will hold the second annual Christmas Masquerade.  The Logic School dance will be held from 5:00-7:00, and the Rhetoric School dance from 7:30-10:00.  These dances are sponsored by the Logic and Rhetoric School SGA's respectively.  The Logic School SGA is responsible for setting up and decorating, and the Rhetoric School is responsible for providing refreshments and clean up after the dance.  The officers and representatives will be coordinating the effort, and they will be assembling teams from the student body.  All proceeds will go toward expenses associated with the upcoming Cotillion and Protocol dances in the spring.

Dress for the Logic School Masquerade is " church dressy," which means girls will wear dressy dresses and boys should wear slacks and a collared shirt, tie optional.  Dress for the Rhetoric School Masquerade is "church dressy" to semi-formal.  Dress code is simple:  Modesty first.  Any strapless or sleeveless dresses must be accompanied by a jacket, shawl, etc.  No clothing should be form fitting or skin tight, tops should not be low enough to expose visible cleavage, and all skirts must be at least one inch above the knee.  We will be happy to preview any dress you have questions about; however, if you're in doubt, it's usually best to just wear something else.

Tickets for both dances are $5.00, along with a pack of "socks for soldiers," and both dances are designed to be times for group fun and fellowship, not romantic date evenings.  Masks are encouraged, but optional.  We will show the students examples of masks they can make and wear to the dance.  If you have any questions about the masquerade, or if you would like to volunteer to chaperone one of the dances, please contact Kim Parks at kparks@evangelclassical.org.
