Communicators For Christ Opportunity
What do Adolf Hitler, Winston Churchill, and Martin Luther King, Jr. have in common? They were powerful communicators; they shook the world and shaped the culture. What difference does good communication make? The spoken word stands alone in its ability to move men's hearts. Men have affected the course of history through excellent and timely communication.

A word fitly spoken... words seasoned with grace... words of truth! As young Christians, our students have the hope that this world needs to hear! We have the greatest message. Let's impact our culture with the truth through gracious and effective communication!

The Communicators for Christ Tour is a training event held by the Institute of Cultural Communicators designed to help Christian students from all educational backgrounds become "cultural communicators" - people who can impact their culture through excellent communication of the truth.

You and your student are invited to participate in the Montgomery Conference on October 14-16, 2010, at Taylor Road Baptist Church. The Early Bird Deadline is Thursday, September 16, 2010.If you are interested you may read more information and register now at: http://www.insttitueforculturalcommunicators.org/registration/default.aspx

Logic & Rhetoric School Updates
College Bound Workshop
All Rhetoric School students and parents are invited to attend a special College Bound Workshop on Monday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. Mr. Dylan Scroggins, from the Admissions office at Samford University will be here to discuss what students at all high school grade levels should be doing to prepare now for college.  Of course, he will be highlighting Samford University, but he will also be able to give students and parents a lot of good general information, so we encourage all who are able to attend the workshop.  So that we have some idea of how many students and parents to expect, we are asking that students who plan to attend sign up on the Rhetoric School SGA bulletin board.  The meeting will either be in the school library or the church sanctuary, depending upon expected turnout.  Please note the time change from 7:00 to 6:00.

Upcoming Area College Fairs
Seniors, if you still haven't made your college "short list," there are some upcoming college fairs in our area you may want to attend.  Students in grades 10-11 are strongly encouraged to begin investigating colleges now.  A great way to start is by attending one or both of the upcoming college fairs listed below:

Birmingham National College Fair, sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling
September 19
1:00-4:00 p.m. at the BJCC

National Christian College Fair
September 21
6:30-8:30 p.m. at Briarwood High School

Details of both events are located on our College Bound bulletin board.  Here's a helpful hint if you plan to attend one or both of these college fairs:  Print out some address labels with your name, address, and email address so that you can quickly sign up for information from the colleges of your choice.  This will free up your time--you can spend more time talking with the college representatives and less time filling out contact information cards.

Homecoming Week
Homecoming week is September 20-24, and it will be a very special homecoming for us at ECCS, as we actually have alumni who can now "come home."  Our dress up days are listed in the column to the left.  Please make sure that your child's costume is modest every day.  Nothing should be too tight, too short, too revealing or suggestive in any way.

Athletic Updates
Congratulations to the Lightning volleyball teams for a great start to their seasons.  The JV team has lost only once, and the varsity team remains undefeated.  If you haven't been to a volleyball game this year, you are missing out.  Check out the upcoming volleyball games listed in the current events column to the left.

Speaking of football, congratulations also to the undefeated JV Lightning football team.  They had a fantastic win over Freedom Academy this Tuesday night.  The Varsity football team won last Friday night, defeating the Bridge Academy from Hot Springs, Arkansas.  The varsity travels tomorrow night to Tuscaloosa Christian, but both the varsity and junior varsity will play at home next Friday night in our homecoming double header.  We hope to see you there--let's pack out the stands for homecoming next weekend.

To check out all our athletic schedules and results, visit the ECCS Athletics page.
