Memory Time
Memory Time begins this Friday, September 10th for 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grades.

Co-curriculars begin
All the co-curricular activities will begin this week and next. We are so thankful to all the co-curricular teachers who provide a valuable service to ECCS. Grammar co-curricular teachers are self-employed individuals who are willing to come to this location to offer their talents and expertise. This is a blessing, not only to the students who learn and enjoy so much from the activities, but for parents who would otherwise have to drive great distances to receive such fine instruction. We are proud to offer such an array of fine art classes which support and promote classical education to ECCS students.

Logic & Rhetoric School Updates
College Bound Workshop
All Rhetoric School students and parents are invited to attend a special College Bound Workshop on Monday, September 27 at 7:00 p.m. Mr. Dylan Scroggins, from the Admissions office at Samford University will be here to discuss what students at all high school grade levels should be doing to prepare now for college.  Of course, he will be highlighting Samford University, but he will also be able to give students and parents a lot of good general information, so we encourage all who are able to attend the workshop.  So that we have some idea of how many students / parents to expect, we are asking that students who plan to attend sign up on the Rhetoric School SGA bulletin board.  The meeting will either be in the school library or the church sanctuary, depending upon expected turnout.

Upcoming Area College Fairs
Seniors, if you still haven't made your college "short list," there are some upcoming college fairs in our area you may want to attend.  Students in grades 10-11 are strongly encouraged to begin investigating colleges now.  A great way to start is by attending one or both of the upcoming college fairs listed below:

Birmingham National College Fair, sponsored by the National Association for College Admission Counseling
September 19
1:00-4:00 p.m. at the BJCC

National Christian College Fair
September 21
6:30-8:30 p.m. at Briarwood High School

Details of both events are located on our College Bound bulletin board.  Here's a helpful hint if you plan to attend one or both of these college fairs:  Print out some address labels with your name, address, and email address so that you can quickly sign up for information from the colleges of your choice.  This will free up your time--you can spend more time talking with the college representatives and less time filling out contact information cards.

Homecoming Week
Homecoming week is September 20-24, and it will be a very special homecoming for us at ECCS, as we actually have alumni who can now "come home."  The cheerleaders and student leaders will be giving the student body specific information in the coming weeks about dress guidelines and class competitions.

October ACT Registration Deadline Coming Up!
All sophomores and juniors are strongly encouraged to sign up for the October 23 ACT.  Register soon for the best chance of getting the test venue of your choice.  After September 17, a late fee will be required to register for the October 23 date.  To register, go to www.act.org.  Our school code is 010-028.
Athletic Updates
Congratulations to the Lightning volleyball teams for a great start to their seasons.  The JV team has lost only once, and the varsity team remains undefeated.  If you haven't been to a volleyball game this year, you are missing out.  Check out the upcoming volleyball games listed in the current events column to the left.

Speaking of football, congratulations also to the undefeated JV Lightning football team.  They had a strong win over the Flint Hill Flames this Tuesday night.  The Varsity football team lost a heartbreaker in the closing minutes last Friday night to the Tabernacle Torches, but they are also having a great season.  Both the JV and Varsity football schedules have been front-loaded with a lot of home games, but the home games are numbered.  Be sure to come out this week, September 10 for the varsity home game against The Bridge Academy and the homecoming game on September 24.  Those are the last two varsity home games before a long road stretch in October.  Let's make these last two home games the biggest crowds the Lightning have ever had!
