ECCS Student Wins National Essay Contest |
Bethany Carter Wins
Constituting America's 9/17 National High School Essay Contest
Last summer, ECCS senior Bethany Carter was browsing the Internet looking for scholarship opportunities, and she came across the Constituting America website and read about the nation-wide contests they were sponsoring across grade levels in art, music, poetry, short film and essays to promote student awareness of the U.S. Constitution. Bethany realized the deadline was really close, but she asked her father, Dr. Mark Carter, if she could enter the contest. He gave her permission to do so and just at midnight on the final day of the contest, Bethany submitted her essay online. Continue reading the rest of the article here. |

School Faculty & Staff Enjoy Summers "Off"
| | Don't Teachers and Principals Have the Summers Off?
There are few greater misperceptions than the one above! Classrooms may be closed for the summer, but much more work than one can imagine continues throughout the summer months in preparation for the new school year. Each time a family member calls to ask if I can travel out of town for a week, I revisit this misperception. Every time a well-meaning friend asks if I am enjoying my "time off" I revisit this misperception. And every summer that I do not get a good tan, I revisit this misperception.
Who knew summers could be so full of work and business--aren't we suppose to rest and relax!
I thought I would share just a few of the activities and jobs that must be taken care of in any school setting during the summer months: run all end-of-year reports, Renweb roll-over to the new year, organize new student files, pull old student records, complete classroom and curriculum inventories, make all classroom purchases, complete curriculum ordering, conduct teacher interviews, teacher training, and new student testing. Organize classroom placements, edit handbook revisions, attend conferences, prepare paperwork for school registration, enjoy popsicles, attend board meetings, AHC training, CPR training, uniform sale, and technology training, classroom decorating, fieldtrip planning, writing newsletters,...Whew! I could go on, and on, but I think you get the picture!
So, the next time you hear that teachers and principals have summers off, please set the record straight for us! We love our jobs and consider it a joy to work for ECCS students and parents and for our Lord Jesus in this ministry--even through the summers! |

Classical Primer
| Have you ever been asked, "What is classical Christian education?" Have you ever wondered what makes this approach different? Each month we will provide articles to help you gain insight into classical Christian education. Keep reading for the first offering.
Classical Christian Education - Unparalleled Preparation for Life by David Goodwin, Headmaster of Ambrose School, Meridian, ID
I'm often asked why I became involved in k-12 education before having any children of my own. I must admit that initially, I simply desired to help establish a strong academic option in Idaho's Treasure Valley with a solid Christian influence. Over the years, I have learned much more about Classical and Christian education and now realize that it provides unparalleled preparation for life. Read the full article here.

Men's Workday a Great Success! | | We want to express a sincere and heartfelt THANK YOU to all the ECCS dads, Evangel church deacons, faculty, and faculty children and spouses who came out on July 31st to paint, clean, hang bulletin boards, assemble shelves, move books, and in general help to get the ECCS classrooms prepared for the new school year. We could not have been ready for the students' return without all your help! It means so much to us to have such wonderful and caring volunteers who give of their time and talents in this very practical and meaningful way. Not only does it save us money, it creates life-long bonds and provides our children with a great example of Christian servanthood and fun fellowship. Thanks to each of you!
