January 19th -- We Remember our Foundress!
This is the actual house where our Mother Foundress began the community with her mother in 1723!
Many of us have been here.
We celebrate the unofficial feast day of our beloved foundress, Mother Maria Hyacintha Zechner. She died on January 19, 1763 in Hallein, Austria (near Salzburg).

Mother Hyacintha has not been canonized. In fact, we only have one quote that we can attribute to her...but she did leave a legacy that has been touching lives for almost 300 years and continues to do so!

Come and See Discernment Retreat Dec. '09

The December "Come and See" discernment retreat was great! Some friends from Levelland, Hereford, San Antonio, and Borger came to learn more about religious life and discernment. This was a group with loads of personality! May God lead them all to the awesome vocation that He is calling them to!

Novenas - a Great Way to Pray
Have you ever had a very special intention that your heart ached over? Maybe you have someone you love far from God or a friend with a serious illness, or maybe you want to beg God to give some direction to your own life.
Novenas are a great way to give these intentions to God in a special way.
The practice of saying novenas is derived from Scripture. After the Ascension of Jesus into heaven, he told his disciples to pray together and devote themselves to constant prayer (Acts 1:14). The apostles, the Blessed Mother, and other followers of Jesus prayed together for nine consecutive days. They were rewarded with a truly amazing miracle: the descent of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost (taken from CatholicExpert.com).
It's amazing how much grace can be poured down on us and/or our loved ones as we plead with our hearts and place all of our trust in God, no matter what happens.

A Visit from Sister M. Petronilla Herl, our Superior General from the Motherhouse in Vienna
Mother Petronilla was with us for two weeks. We enjoyed her apple streudel, her wisdom, and her humor!
Sister is third from the left above with some Sisters and visitors. While in the United States, she made a stop at the Metropolitan Museum in New York City. A young lady came up to her to talk, and it just so happened that it was a young woman who has visited us in Panhandle. As a result, the young lady came to Panhandle again when Sister Petronilla was hare just to renew the acquaintance! |

The FUN Raiser was a huge success thanks to so many volunteers, helpers, benefactors, and friends!
The Sisters were happy to dance to the Cotton-Eyed Joe at the end of an awesome evening!
Over 500 people came to celebrate with us. It was a night to give thanks for the goodness of God in our lives. Because of His love and care and the support of many, the School Sisters continue their mission into 2010...and beyond. |

Where There is a Need
The School Sisters stand in support of our brothers and sisters in Haiti. We send our love, prayers, and support to the people of God there, those who suffer and those who minister. Please join us in trying to ease the devastation.
