Even though it may still be sweltering outside, some trees are already offering signs that fall is on the way.  It's been a wonderful summer at L.A. Reynolds, and we want to thank everyone for coming to shop at the Showcase. We also want to thank everyone for voting us #1 in the Winston-Salem Journal Reader's Choice Award.  We are so proud to be your #1 choice two years in a row and we are passionate about what we do.

Many of you know that my dad, Jerry Long, has been ill. He's doing much better and we really appreciate the support and kind words we've been getting from so many customers and friends. Thank you for your concern.

A little later on this month, we'll be getting in many of your fall favorites including pansies and fall grasses. Right now we reader's choicehave fall vegetables, great new collegiate flags, new fall merchandise, fall silks, great stock on indoor plants and so much more.

Don't forget our end-of-summer-sale is going on through August 29. Perennials are 40% off, hybrid tea roses are now 50% off and trees and shrubs are 25% off.

Thanks everyone and we can't wait to see you!

GARDENING INFO
Questions from Facebook fans answered by our president (and expert gardener) Ken Long
Our Facebook page definitely allows us to interact with our customers and fellow gardeners. We recently asked what questions some of our Facebook fans had and here are the answers:

Daffodil and other bulbs will be in stock at L.A. Reynolds soon.
daffodil bulb
Q: When is the best time to plant bulbs for next spring? How deep do daffodils need to be planted?

A: The best time to plant is October/November, about 6 inches deep.

Q: We want to plant a pecan tree. How fast do they grow and how long before they produce nuts?
A. The best time to plant a pecan tree is in the fall; we should have some mid-September. Pecan trees are slow growers but you should have pecans within 1-3 years.

Q. How can I kill crabgrass without killing grass with heat?
A. I recommend Weed Be Gon Max with Crabgrass Control. Use it according to the label directions this month.

Q. What is the best way to protect and care for a banana tree during the winter months?
A. Because it is not hardy here, lift out of the ground before frost, wrap in newspaper and store in the garage over the winter.

Q. I am making an attempt to grow Stevia "Sweetleaf" from seed. Out of 10 seeds, six germinated over a week ago. How slow do they grow or am I doing something wrong? I water from bottom, keep in light 14 hrs a day but they are not growing ...just living.
A. There is a tremendous amount of information on this subject on the Internet, and I recommend you look there for answers. A lot of light is definitely needed.  With a lot of seeds, 100% germination is never going to happen, and this is the case with Stevia.

Thank you to everyone who submitted questions.
