Join us on Twitter and Facebook! We've been having fun.Something that happened the other day took us by surprise! We noticed that some of our fans on Facebook have been putting up pictures of their own gardens. Well, we were thrilled! We've also had some good interactions with other gardeners on our Facebook page in the last couple of weeks, including tips from someone with seven-foot-high tomato plants. Take This Quick Survey: "Would You Be Interested in a One-to-One Gardening Class with a Gardening Expert from L.A. Reynolds?"
Our goal is to not only sell plants, trees, flowers and shrubs ... but to help you learn more about gardening. What if you could have your own "private gardening tutor" to help you learn about perennials, find out how to get started with a vegetable garden, or well, anything else you're interested in doing? Well, that's something we're thinking about offering. So please let us know if that is something you might be interested in. Click the link below.

Results from our last poll ... We asked, "Who Inspired You to Love Gardening?" and we were blown away by all the great responses:
"My maternal grandmother could make anything grow -- I think
that all of her fingers were green, not just her thumbs! She was still moving
plants and shrubs to different locations in her yard when she was in her early
90s. Of course they always survived and were even prettier in their new
locations."
"My mom always had an enormous vegetable garden and we always 'ate local' as a result! She also loved zinnias and roses as well as
verbena."
"My dad at 83 still plants three flats of flowers in front of his
home and has a half-acre garden that he plants and still cans all his tomatoes and cucumbers and makes the best horseradish you will ever eat. He is amazing!"
"In the hectic pace of raising children, work and housework,
my grandmother brought her love of nature into her home and our church by
placing her own arrangement of flowers in areas to brighten up a room. My
mother worked hard to keep a rose garden that she used to beautify our yard of
pine trees. Another inspiration ... and most likely why I love it
today, is that I feel close to God as I reflect on the simple act of growing to
nurture my relationship with him."
We wish we had room for even more of these wonderful comments!
Statistically speaking: 52.1% of our respondents said that their mother inspired them to garden. 34.7% say it was a grandparent and 30.4% say it was their dad. Thanks to all the parents and grandparents out there who take time to teach their children about all the incredible things you can grow.

Oh, Deer!
If deer are a problem in your area, then you know the frustration of planting some beautiful flowers and then finding them eaten the very next morning. Lots of folks report that deer in their areas will eat absolutely anything, including rosebushes with thorns!
What to do? Well, we have two suggestions: 1) Buy plants and flowers that are deer resistant. Rutgers University created a great guide several years ago that we still use at L.A. Reynolds. If you'd like to print out your own copy, click the link below. There are many plants that deer tend to leave alone. And many others that deer particularly enjoy.
2) Buy a deer repellent designed to keep the deer away. We stock several brands that seem to really work, including Liquid Fence. There's also a new product that has been popular, called "I Must Garden." This product is from Chapel Hill, N.C. and it's made from natural ingredients. You simply spray the deer repellent on the plants and it leaves a taste that deer find unpleasant.
P.S. if you've never smelled deer repellent, believe us, it packs quite an odor. Most products are odorless once they're dry.
