Vinca annuals are bright and cheery. They're now on sale at L.A. Reynolds. | Vinca is the Flower of the Week -- and It's On Sale Now Through Sunday, 5/23Yes, you can save $4 on a flat of 36 now through Sunday. This popular annual flowering plant needs full sun all day long to look its best. Once it is established in the garden it does not need much watering at all. It likes it hot and dry. It is not used in containers that often, but if it is, it would require a little water now and then. Homeowners with sprinkler systems tend to overwater annual vinca.

What to Do in Your Garden Right Now
Right now is a key planting time. You want to be planting new annuals, trees, shrubs and perennials now before it gets too hot. You will need to make sure that these tender plants do not get too dry, so keep them watered. | 1. Pull out any pansies that you have in the ground (even if they're still looking good -- because they won't be looking good for long). 2. Plant colorful annuals and perennials in your beds. 3. Mulch. 4. Deadhead. Cut the spent blooms off your rose bushes and other flowering shrubs. 5. Create a watering plan. If you have irrigation, make sure it's watering where you think it is and not overwatering. Install drip irrigation where necessary. It's going to get mighty hot -- soon. 6. Plant your containers. 7. Plant tomatoes and other spring crops. 8. If you received a hydrangea plant for Mother's Day, don't throw it out -- plant it in the ground. 9. Prune rhododendrons after they finish flowering. 10. Fertilize all your acid-loving shrubs and evergreens with a fertilizer like Holly-tone. 11. If you have plants or shrubs that look diseased, take a snip, put it in a zip-lock bag and bring it to our expert gardeners for analysis. 12. Enjoy a nice glass of lemonade in your backyard on a pretty day!
