Dear ,
L.A. Reynolds was recently named the "Best Nursery in the Triad" in the Winston-Salem Journal Reader's Choice awards. We're thrilled and grateful to all of you who voted for us. Thank you so much!
Right now we're preparing for the fall planting season. Trucks carrying beautiful flowering trees, shrubs, perennials and evergreens are coming in daily. Our photographer snapped this picture of a gorgeous pink perennial hibiscus just a few days ago.
This is certainly a transitional time in the garden and a great time to take advantage of a wonderful selection of sought-after plants. Some recent arrivals include: Encore® Azaleas, Knock-out® roses, gardenias, Carolina jasmine, Japanese maples, oaks, cherry trees, dogwoods, rhododendrums, liriope and Winter Gem boxwoods, hanging baskets, ferns and many others.
We invite you to follow us on Twitter. We "tweet" frequently about sale items, new arrivals and plant tips. We're having fun with this new technology, and we hope you'll follow us.
If you need help identifying plants or picking the perfect tree for your yard, just ask. Our gardening experts are here to help.

 Late Summer
Perennials Right about now you may be needing a late summer burst of color in your garden. This week we've been getting in some wonderful perennials that will definitely add interest to your flower areas. Some of these include the happy looking cone flower you see here, plus inexpensive banana plants (that grow to an impressive height) and gorgeous hibiscus plants with wonderful large, showy pink blooms. Come see what's new!

End of Summer Annuals
Portulaca is a popular annual that is perfect for hot days at the end of summer. It's generally very successful in a border or a hanging basket. Portulaca is available in a variety of colors. We love this brightly colored yellow and hot pink variety. |
 Popular Knock-out® Roses -
Now available in a variety of colors
Knock-out® roses have been so popular at L.A. Reynolds we keep having to restock them! If you've been considering adding these to your garden, now is the time to shop. Right now we have a big selection in all colors including pink, yellow, white, rainbow and blush. We love the easy care of Knock-outs® . They don't require any spraying (like traditional hybrid tea roses), and they bloom all summer and into the fall.

Our Evergreen and Flowering Shrub Displays Change Every Week! Many of our returning customers comment on how frequently we change our displays. It's true! We like to keep things looking fresh, and we continuously move things around to show our customers how various colors, textures and leaf shapes complement each other. You can use the ideas that you see at the Showcase in your own landscaping. Fall is planting time, and every day we have more products arriving. Shop now, and you can plant now -- as long as you water on a regular basis and allow your new plants to establish strong roots. |
Uncommon evergreens add interest to your landscape
This August you'll find unique items all over the Showcase. The gorgeous Sunjoy gold pillar Barberry you see above has bright lime green leaves and lots of interesting texture. Many of our more unique types of plants, trees and shrubs do sell quickly, so it's always a good idea to snap them up while you can! |
Free Ice Cold Lemonade Every Saturday and Sunday in August Yes, we'll have a delicious glass of ice cold lemonade waiting for you every weekend in August. Try sprinker and soaker hoses in your garden for beautiful, healthy plants
If you're looking for inexpensive solutions for irrigation, we recommend trying a sprinker hose or a soaker hose. You can set up either of these as an alternative watering solution. Both the sprinker hose and the soaker hose make it simple to keep your plants, trees, flowers and shrubs healthy and well watered through the late summer heat. The soaker hose can save water as well. Water permeates through thousands of tiny holes at a slow pace so there's less run-off into the driveway and the street. Both of these types of hoses are perfect for long beds that require a lot of water. With the amount of clay we have in Zone 7, soaker hoses are a particularly good choice.
Note on Watering: We are seeing customers bringing in stressed out plants that are actually being over watered, not under watered. The best way to tell if your plants need water is to carry a little trowel out into the garden with you. Dig down 4". If the soil is dry, it's time to water. If it's soaking wet, take a pitch fork and aerate slightly to encourage the soil to dry out. Too much water can be just as damaging as not enough.

For the Birds!
You can continue to attract a variety of birds to your feeders in late summer by offering an assortment of seed mixes. At L.A. Reynolds we offer seed mixes designed to attract finches, sparrows, cardinals, woodpeckers and many other native birds. We also have an excellent selection of feeders, bird baths and suet cakes.
Hummingbirds are very active during the summer time and we offer a packaged mix that will help you make up hummingbird nectar quickly and easily.

Feeding Evergreens and Flowering Shrubs Stock up on fertilizer next time you're at the Showcase. We recommend an application of Holly-tone in the fall for evergreens and other acid loving trees and shrubs to help them green up a bit and promote strong roots.
