A Spring Checklist for Gardeners: Cleaning up and Getting Organized to Garden
It's time to tackle those garages and sheds and get organized for Spring and Summer Gardening. Here are some quick tips:
1. Remove all the dirt and debris from your spades, shovels and other tools. Inspect wood handles for wear. Replace any spades that are rusted or are falling apart.
2. Have your clippers professionally sharpened. Put a little WD-40 or oil in the hinges to make them easier to use. Go ahead and buy motor oil for your mowers and power spray washers so you'll have it on hand.
3. Refill gasoline tanks for your lawn mower, edgers and other gasoline operated gardening equipment.
4. Check your extension cords for nicks and cuts. Check garden hose fittings for leaks. Locate all of your sprayers and watering attachments.
5. Clean out bird baths, feeders, gardening buckets, fountains and smaller water features.
6. Stock up on fertilizers, top soil, manure, mulch and other soils. Keep fertilizers where children can't get into them.
7. Locate your tomato stakes, drip lines, tie-backs for climbling roses and other supports.
8. Organize your equipment so you can find it. You can buy inexpensive peg board and get all your gardening tools organized so you can see them.
