*NOTICE* The VMA is MOVING! |
The VMA is pleased to announce we are moving our office this week, June 29-30. The new space will be celebrated with the Central Virginia Manufacturing Town Hall Meeting followed by an Open House to be held on Thursday, August 18, 2011. More details about this event will be sent soon, but we hope you will save the date and plan to attend.
While the new office will be 5 minutes outside of downtown Richmond, it will still be very convenient to be reached from I-64, I-95, I-195 and the Powhite Parkway. Please remember that the VMA office is an extension of your office as VMA members, so please stop by when you are in town or let us know if you wish to utilize our meeting space for your business.
Among many benefits of the move will be Class A meeting space to fit various size gatherings, from small groups to groups of 60 people, convenient first floor offices and ample parking available next to the building. Our email and phone numbers will remain the same, but our new address will be 2108 Laburnum Ave, Suite 100F, Richmond VA 23227, located right across the street from Richmond manufacturer AMF Bakery Systems. |

Redistricting Special Session Report |
Redistricting is over and the new plan has been approved by the Department of Justice, so the guessing game is done. Some of you will find that you have new representation for your plant or may belong in a newly created district. To find out exactly who your representative is, including their contact information, click here to access our Legislative Action Center where you can type your company's address for all details.
Redistricting has forced some incumbents to battle one another for the same seat or to change districts in order to run for re-election. For example, one member of the Manufacturing Development Commission, Senator Reynolds of district 20 might face fellow incumbent Senator Stanley, should he win the Republican primary, and Senator Smith, also of the Manufacturing Development Commission, has moved to district 19 to run for re-election.
Virginia Beach did retain its two Senate seats, which were previously in question, which should help retain Senator Wagner, Chair of the Manufacturing Development Commission. To access maps showing the new districts for Virginia's state and federal representatives found on the VPAP website, click here.
The election will be very interesting to watch, especially with the number of Democrats to Republicans in the Senate currently at such a close margin of 18-22 and the number of members having announced their retirement or plan not to seek re-election, including Senators Ticer, Whipple and Wampler along with Delegates Morgan and Abbit. |

Welcomes new Board member and co-locates meeting with NAM's Summit |
The VMA's Board of Directors met in Washington, DC June 14-15, with many members of the Board staying in DC to participate in NAM's Summit June 15-16. The Board took this opportunity to welcome new Board member, Eldon Brammer of Georgia Pacific.
With seven new board members in the last 12 months, the Board took this opportunity not only to develop the future agenda of the VMA, including its 90th anniversary plan for 2012, as well as get to know one another better mingling during a dinner cruise on the Potomac.
As part of NAM's Summit, Board members, VMA staff and other Virginia manufacturers visited with memb ers of the Virginia Congressional Delegation, including Senator Warner, Representatives Forbes and Goodlatte. Two Board members from Goodlatte's district were on hand to present him with an award on behalf of NAM.
Feedback from members and representatives is that it was a successful three days towards achieving the goals of the VMA on behalf of industry in the Commonwealth. |
