Hello Friends of Safe Harbor -

With Thanksgiving almost here, what a perfect time to reflect on all that Safe Harbor has to be thankful for . . .  You, our wonderful volunteers and supporters, our generous vets, our ever-ready-to-help daycare/boarding partners and so many others who donate their services to help our Labs.  To all of you, our heartfelt thanks.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Best Regards,

Jacky

All Breeds Welcome at Halloween Yappy Hour!

Halloween Lab Pirate

Over 30 dogs of all shapes and sizes attended the Halloween Yappy Hour at City Bark Lodo. Three best costume prizes were awarded, to the Pirate Lab above, Thing 1 and Thing 2, and the Pumpkin Lab and her owner in matching Pumpkin costumes.

There were lots of great costumes too!

The pool was open and a few brave hounds dove in.

Safe Harbor volunteers were on hand to help coordinate the event, and to sell Safe Harbor merchandise and raffle tickets. Thanks to the volunteers who participated, to everyone who attended, and a huge Thank You to City Bark Lodo for picking Safe Harbor as this year's beneficiary of their annual event.

Spotlight On City Bark

I don't know how they do it, but Nicole and Scott Delmoro manage four City Bark establishments, and four young kids too! They are great sponsors of Safe Harbor Lab Rescue and deserve to be in the Spotlight this month.

In addition to sponsoring the Halloween Yappy Hour as a benefit for Safe Harbor, they of course also graciously hosted our annual Lab Fest in September, and they foster some of our labs when needed. They've been a big Safe Harbor supporter for many years.

The four City Barks are 8th Avenue in Denver, Lodo, City Bark Too in Englewood, and City Bark Parker.

City Bark Lodo offers Doggie Day Care, Sleepovers, Self-Wash Tubs and an Off-Leash Dog Park open to the public, with hills, tunnels, a doggie condo and swimming pool.

Visit the City Bark website to see all services offered at each site, and especially check out the great outside play areas on the webcam, at the citybark.com.

Thank you to the always friendly and helpful City Bark staff and especially Nicole and Scott!

Success Story ~ Toffee

Pretty Toffee has found her home in the mountains with Allie and Charlie. They were smitten with her sweet face and lively manners, yet she could settle down after a few rounds of kisses. Toffee will get to go on hikes around her new home and be a part of all the family outings. At home she'll have run of the house and be pampered with a lot of love and care from her forever family.

Many people played a part in caring for Toffee until she found her forever home and our thanks goes to Rover Retreat, Lee Ann, Glenn, Deanna, Carol, Jennifer and City Bark Parker.
Maggie Sends Her Thanks to Friends Rescued Animal Network (FRAN)

Sweet 6-7 year old Maggie was abandoned at a shelter. When we rescued her she had massive, painful ear infections with scarring from neglect and a tender broken canine tooth. She was almost completely blind as well, due to progressive retinal atrophy, an inherited condition.

Laurie at the Friends Rescued Animal Network Fund graciously provided us with financial help for Maggie vet expenses.  FRAN is devoted to the welfare and health of animals and was created in 2006 by Laurie in memory of her mother. The organization has helped protect and enhance the life of many local animals, like Maggie, who have found their way to rescue.

Thanks to help from Laurie and FRAN, Maggie is healthy and in her forever home! Visit FRAN at friendsrescued.org.
FOSTER HOMES NEEDED

We still desperately need foster homes for abandoned Labs who are waiting in shelters for our help before it's too late.

For those Lab lovers who are able to help as a foster home, there is no greater gift from the heart than to shelter a rescued Lab on their way to a better life. Safe Harbor covers medical expenses and provides 24/7 support for our fosters. You supply the loving home for a few weeks and are a valued member of our Foster Team. The appreciation from the Lab whose life you help save knows no bounds.

Please contact Mary, our Foster Coordinator, for more info about how you can help a Lab on his or her journey to a forever home: yellow4lab@comcast.net

So many are waiting for us to save their lives!

Other Ways To Help The Labs

Here are three ways to help Safe Harbor Lab Rescue as we head into the holiday season:

1. Visit Pet World in Lakewood, and pick a Safe Harbor Lab off the Critter Caring Tree. Purchase the item indicated and it will be held for us to pick up. Pet World is located at 7585 W 10th Avenue (corner of 10th & Wadsworth). 303-237-4040.

2. Ask Your Employer About a Matching Donation to SHLR! Many companies are committed to helping the community by supporting the charities and causes that are important to their employees. Safe Harbor is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that may be eligible to receive matching funds. The Labs would love it if you'd check with your HR department and see if you can sniff out a matching donation!

3. Visit The Animal Rescue Site, proud partner of Petfinder.com, and vote for Safe Harbor Lab Rescue in the $100,000 Shelter Challenge. Click the link below, enter "safe" for shelter name, CO for the state, and hit the search button. Vote as often as once a day. theanimalrescuesite.com

From our Readers

Hi SHLR,

I just wanted to drop you a line about my peach of a pooch, Mattie. She has really "blossomed" with us. I can't believe how lucky we are to have her!

She has very good manners about food, and quickly learned to sit and wait for us to put her bowl down. Her leash skills improve daily, and she is trying so hard to keep 4 on the floor when greeting new friends.

She loves the neighborhood kids when we go out for walks. She will see them coming, and sit next to me with her tail going a mile a minute. I am impressed with her restraint when she is clearly so excited to see them! I am proud to walk such a beautiful and friendly dog.

Her coat is so shiny and soft, everyone wants to pet her for a while!  She gets into all sorts of contortions to get her head in our laps as we sit on the couch, (she stays sitting on the floor) then collapses to the floor, belly showing, hoping for more tummy rubs.

I can't imagine life without St. Mattie - she's that good of a dog! We love her to pieces and can't say "Thank You!" enough to SHLR!

Love,
Marni
