 The Pines B&B LogoGreetings!

Ahh... Spring is finally here. Though we are not going to commit ourselves by saying the cold weather is finally over, but we and the rest of Dresden are hopefully in for a spell of sunny weather.

It has been a long, yet productive winter. Alli spent many winter days teaching at one of the Tri-Valley schools while I worked on projects around the house and tried out an array of new dishes in the kitchen. Even when the B&B isn't so busy, I still spend a good part of the day in the kitchen testing recipes that you can take home with you with our brand new recipe cards that are personalized to your stay.

Well, I hope your winter was enjoyable and you too are looking forward to good weather and great times. We hope that those great times include another visit to your favorite Dresden Bed & Breakfast, The Pines of Dresden. Hope to see you soon!

from The Stress Relief Clinic
Massage

Running a bed and breakfast is hard work. Between enjoying a cup of coffee with your morning guests and quality testing the hammock on a sunny spring afternoon, the B&B business can take a toll on your body and mind. Last year, when just such a situation happened after a particularly long hammock testing session, Alli really felt like she needed to relax.

Luckily for us, the Stress Relief Clinic was just a hop, skip and jump away on Main street. (She drove anyway) Upon return Alli was in the best of moods, relaxed to the max and raving about the spa treatment she had just undergone. The soft music and comfortable atmosphere set the stage for the magic The Stress Relief Clinic worked, massaging away the aches and pains of the day.

Immediately we thought, "Wouldn't it be great if our guests could get this treatment in the comfort of their own room at The Pines?" Well, now they can. Nothing follows a long day of shopping better thean a full body massage to relax those tired muscles sore from carrying all those baskets.

Either at the Main Street location or in the comfort of your own room, no trip to dresden is complete without a session with Jackie of the Stress Relief Clinic.
Update:
The Next Food Network Star

Close, but no cigar

If you have had a chance to watch the Food Network over the past couple of weeks, you have no doubt seen the commercial advertising the upcoming season of The Next Food Network Star. In it, Chef extraordinaire Bobby Flay walks through a hall filled with 20 something wanna-be celebrity chefs holding signs like homeless men on the interstate on-ramp before he steps into a waiting elevator.

The keen eye watching that commercial will notice the slight missing detail that destroys all credibility in the commercial. That missing detail is me. Yes, despite throngs of adoring fans leaving dozens of comments on my audition video, the Food Network decided to pass on this food Starr. Although I got pretty far along in the selection process, in the end I was passed over for this season's show.

I am comforted by two thoughts. First, (hopefully) the person who was in charge of not picking me was fired when their superior saw my obviously superior audition video and now works for Lehman Brothers or AIG. Second, that I will be doubly prepared for next season's auditions. (Oh yeah!) Thank you to everyone who left such great and encouraging comments, and I am already planning for next season's tape. Any suggestions? I'm all ears.

Winter at The Pines

Past Event:

Winter in Dresden

Winter is Dresden's time to relax and recuperate after a busy year. Though things slow down a little, it is far from being closed. Most of the shops stay open and there are area events such as Christmas tree lightings at the Homestead and Roscoe village. Basket Happenings, though technically in the beginning of spring (still feels like winter) draws a good number of people to town.

This is also the time that the Dresden Village Association set their agenda for the year. The DVA is the group that oversees all of the tourist activities and events that happen here in town. This year, I was was elected as vice-president to the DVA so I will have direct input on tourist events and relations. Awesome.

So, is there something that you would like to see more of, less of , a lot of, or none of here in Dresden? Let me know. I will make sure that all suggestions and input is heard. With that input we hope to continue making Dresden the number one place in the area to vist. Email Marin at: thepinesofdresden@gmail.com

Upcoming Event: Corvette Cruise-In at Roscoe Village

When we have a free day, we love to stroll the quaint streets of  Historic Roscoe Village. It's only 15 minutes away and has something for everyone. One of our favorite events in this restored canal town is the Corvette Cruise-In. Corvette owners come from all around to show off their cars. This is a great chance to stay at our relaxing B&B and see some truly beautiful cars.

Around Town:
The Charm of DresdenZulugrass

The Charm of Dresden is one of those shops that would fit in no matter where it was. Offering items ranging from African Zulugrass jewelry to inspirational tableware, the Charm of Dresden would be right at home on any small town main street. One of the few non-basket related stores in Dresden, it is a chance to find unique products and gifts that would make anyone happy, including us.

Most recently, Alli got for herself what seems to be an obviously useful product, (in fact there is an entire area dedicated to "Why didn't I think of that products?") a set of decorated water bottles, with one for every day of the work week. We all know we need to drink more water, but we also know bottled water is expensive and absolutely horrible for the environment. These bottles address both those problems and look great at the same time.

While you are there, make sure you check out the Switchflops (great gift idea) and the Poof! drops (ask for a demonstration) Poof! Japanese MintThe shop is beautifully decorated and set up perfectly for browsing, with flat screen monitors on the walls showcasing all the wonderful products. Located at 517 Main street, it is located right in the heart of Dresden, just waiting for your visit.
Dear Abby:
Pictures and musings of a lazy dog

Winters are hard on me.  My belly drags through the snow, my paws get cold, and worst of all...I miss my people.  I miss wiggling when I see you coming up the walk. I miss inspecting your bags to see if you brought me a treat. I miss all the pats and scratches and kisses you give me, I miss all the scraps that you sneak to me when my mom isn't looking.  I miss you.  I know when the sun is back, you come back.  I'm waiting here for you and there is plenty of me to go around!

This Month's Recipe:
German Apple Pancake

The German Apple pancake is our go-to breakfast for the B&B. It is quick, easy and delicious. It is so good that it is the recipe I chose for my audition video for the Next Food Network Star.

Ingredients:
2 large green apples
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
2 teaspoon vanilla
1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar
5 eggs

Directions:
Sauté apples in butter until heated through, but still firm, in 10 inch ovenproof skillet. Sprinkle cinnamon sugar over apples and toss to mix.

In blender mix remaining ingredients and pour slowly over apples. Place skillet in preheated 375 degree oven for about 15 minutes or until center is set.

Quickly invert pan over platter. Pancake should slide out easily. Slice into wedges and top with crème fraiche or sweetened sour cream.

One more service we offer
Working with Western & Southern

Having a popular Bed & Breakfast is a full time job, no doubt, but this past winter I thought "Hmmm... What could I do to occupy the time between cooking, cleaning, house projects, Village Association duties, newsletters, and staying up late with guests? I know, I'll get a second job! That's a great idea!" So I did, trading my apron and purple bandanna for a shirt and tie. Now, during the week I am a full time representative for Western & Southern Financial. Because, you know, right now is a great time to be in sales, and the financial services industry is just booming.

So thats it. On the weekends, I am the innkeeper confined to the kitchen, preparing breakfast and dinner for all those who wish to partake. During the week, I drive all over Ohio helping people with their insurance and personal financial needs. Pretty satisfying. Along those lines, if you have any questions at all on those topics, I would love the chance to answer them. Keeps me sharp and makes me feel smart. See you on your next visit!
