Greetings!
Hello again, and welcome to the second edition of our newsletter. 2 months in a row and we are on a roll. This is going much better than we thought.
Well, it has been a busy summer so far. Lots of new faces and lots of familiar faces have passed through this last month. Dresden Days has passed and it was a lot of fun. The relaxation area and entertainment went over well and everyone had a great time.
August is here, so it is officially the beginning of the end of summer! If you haven't already, break out the grill, put a few cold ones on ice, and kick your feet up in the hammock. What? No hammock? That's ok, we have one and a whole lot more waiting for you here at The Pines of Dresden. Summer is on its way out so don't miss it!

Party on Main Street
Dresden Days Celebration
This years Dresden Days celebration had a little twist. In addition to all the shopping and events on Main Street, Dresden had a relaxation area, complete with covered tables, Beer Garden and live entertainment .
After sunset, Joe Banana and the Bunch (the band with appeal!) rocked 6th and Main until late Saturday night. The party was briefly interrupted by a heavy thunderstorm that sent Dresden locals onto Main Street to rescue the vendor tents that were blowing away. It was quite a sight to see Main Street shop owners braving the storm to protect the tents of visiting vendors, small town hospitality at its finest.
The rain didn't deter the party-goers, who continued the celebration as soon as the storm passed. All in all, the Block Party was a success and ended with a fun Saturday night.
What wasn't so fun was getting up to make Sunday-morning's breakfast.

Dear Abby Pictures and musings of a lazy dog
This was an busy month for me.
It is my job to make everyone feel welcome from the moment they come up the drive, so I had a lot of greeting to do. It's my favorite part of the job.
This last month was especially exciting because I got to see a bunch of my old friends and made lots of new ones. The kitchen table was always full of women laughing and eating, so I got lots of back scratches and a few secret treats slipped to me, but don't let my mom know.
I accompanied my parents to all the Dresden Day's events. I have to go along and keep an eye on them, but of course my eyes soon closed cuz I fell asleep, as usual. Four blocks is just way to far to walk for a sleepy bulldog.
Aw, who am I kidding...I didn't walk. I rode to and fro in style in my red wagon complete with beverage bowl and parasol.

Group Profile: The Shaky Puddins
Some of Georgia's Finest Peaches
You can hear them coming a mile away. Loud infectious laughter is the hallmark of the ladies from Georgia who call themselves the Shaky Puddins. Fun and boisterous, the Puddins are some of our most unforgettable guests.
Every July, they make a trip up North to Dresden to do some shopping and raise a little heck. This year was an extra special occasion as the Puddins threw a surprise bridal shower, complete with decorations, for one of their own. We are still finding glitter in strange places. We knew it was truly a surprise when the bride-to-be came downstairs to the party in her PJs and no makeup.
On their last night in Dresden, they invited us out to dinner at The Depot. We are happy to report that they are just as comical in public as they are in the privacy of The Pines.
We are definitely looking forward to their return, and we will be sure to provide ample warning to all of Dresden.

In Style: The Staycation
Staying close to home
Although the expression may be a bit overused, there is no denying the popularity of the staycation. The rising price of airline travel, gasoline and other living expenses have made vacationing close to home more and more attractive. These days it is just too expensive for many people to make a long trip and many are electing to take shorter trips within their vicinities.
If you live within a few hours of Dresden, you may have it better than most. Southeastern Ohio has many things to offer those in need of a short vacation, and Dresden is the perfect place to begin your exploration of all the area has to offer.
If you or someone you know likes golf, we are within 20 minutes of two top-rated courses, Eagle Sticks and Longaberger.
If you like wine, we are less then an hour's drive from 5 different wineries. Of course, that's not all. In addition there is the Longaberger Homestead, Roscoe Village, Amish Country, The Village of Dresden and much, much more.
There is something for everyone and it starts with just a phone call or an email to us here at The Pines of Dresden B&B, your home away from home. |

Summertime at The Pines
Outdoor relaxation
People love hammocks. Nothing says lazy afternoon like rocking slowly in the shade on a warm summer's day.
Needless to say, lazy days are our favorite kind. Like most people, we don't seem to have enough of them, though in all honesty, we probably have more than most.
Running The Pines gives us a unique opportunity to test out how one would spend said "lazy days." Rigorous study of the hammock's swing, the shade provided at different times of the day, and exact placement of the cooler to ensure easy access are all part of our job to make sure that you have the most relaxing time possible.
Now, with such a demanding schedule, we need to relax after a long day of faux relaxation. We find the best way to do this is to plan time for ourselves to unwind. That, in essence, is what your stay at The Pines Bed & Breakfast is: a planned time for you to unwind and relax. Go ahead. We both deserve it.

This Months Recipe
French Toast Soufflé with Praline topping
Easily our most requested recipe, our French Toast Soufflé is a definite crowd-pleaser. Topped with a simple, yet delicious praline topping, this dish is like the love-child of bread pudding and baked custard. The best part is it is prepared the night before and popped in the oven the next morning. Ingredients: 1 French bread baguette 8 eggs 2 cups half and half 1 cup milk 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 tablespoon Gran Marnier or Orange juice concentrate (optional) ½ teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon cinnamon Dash salt
Orange zest Praline topping 1 cup butter 1 cup brown sugar 1 cup chopped pecans 2 tablespoons corn syrup ½ teaspoon nutmeg ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Slice bread about 1 inch thick and line the bottom of baking dish. Blend remaining ingredients and pour over bread. Cover and refrigerate overnight. For the topping, mix all ingredients, adding the pecans last.
The next morning, spoon topping over bread, covering entirely. Top with orange zest and bake uncovered at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes, or until puffed and golden. Serve at once.

Introducing The PLANT NANNY! The easiest way to water your indoor plants or baskets.
The Plant Nanny is a clay spike that you put into your plants soil. Into that spike goes either an empty wine bottle (Very cool) or a standard plastic drink bottle up to 1 liter in size. The water slowly dissipates through the spike and encourages healthy root growth for stronger plants. The best part is, when the water runs out, you just refill the bottle. It's super easy. No more carrying around a heavy bucket full of water, or messy draining hanging pots. We use them in all of our plants at the B&B and they have been timesavers for us and lifesavers for our plants.
$7 each or 4 for $24 (Wine Bottle Size)
$5 each ( Drink Bottles up to 1 liter)
