Lots of Legislation ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ There are quite a few interesting bills on both sides of the state. Our website has a good summary for the Missouri side. Both Kansas and Missouri have PACE bills pending - Property Assessed Clean Energy...
This financing legislation would allow counties and cities to issue bonds that finance renewables and energy efficiency for property owners. The bonds are repaid through a special assessment on the property tax bill. KS HB 2663, MO HB 2178.

Hog Farm loses again
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Premium Standard Farms, Milan, MO lost again in court when neighbors sued over the smell - this time the court award was $11 million. Seems that people don't like it when you move in and make their lives miserable with your operations. What's sad is that they just keep doing it because it is so profitable. Makes you appreciate our local county health ordinance!
Solar Electricity Makes Cents Now! - Dan Chrias Workshop
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thu, April 1, 6:30pm - 9:00pm Where The Energy Savings Store Showroom - 15209 W. 99th, Lenexa, KS 66219
Solar electricity has never been more affordable. Prices of PV modules have fallen dramatically in the past year. and Missouri's initiated a generous rebate program in 2010. These factors, combined with a 30% Federal Tax Credits have slashed costs by over 50%. Now's the time to install a solar electric system. In this talk, Dan Chiras, Ph.D., director of The Evergreen Institute in Gerald, MO, will discuss the highly favorable economics of solar electricity. Dan will discuss the basics of solar energy -- how solar modules work, the types of systems, and common misunderstandings. He will also discuss how much it will cost to install a PV system on your home or business, taking into account numerous incentives now available in Kansas City that make solar electricity a great investment! Dan will also present other inexpensive and innovative ideas that can help you reduce the initial size and cost of your PV system. Dan is author of numerous books on renewable energy, including Power from the Sun, Power from the Wind, and The Homeowner's Guide to Renewable Energy. Also tour the showroom floor and see different types of solar panels, wind turbines and more. Drinks and appetizers provided.

| My new Windmill
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We installed a new Skystream 2.4 kW wind turbine at my house on Feb 27th. Very exciting! Should produce about 30-40% of our household electricity. There was absolutely no wind all of last week, or course, but it started spinning yesterday and hasn't stopped. It is a grid-tied system, meaning that when it's windy we are using power from the turbine, but when it isn't we use utility power as usual. The company I work for, The Energy Savings Store, installed it on a 45 ft tower.
