Lee's Summit Couple First to receive KCPL Solar Rebates
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Ray and Kathy Baisch noticed an upward trend in their energy usage and the associated costs, they began investigating solar electricity for their home.
Located in Lee's Summit, Missouri, the Baisch's had been considering solar for years.  The couple got serious about making the investment when they learned
that KCP&L was offering a new solar rebate - a result of Proposition C that Missourians overwhelmingly passed in 2008. The $2/watt rebate covers about 25%
of the price of a solar system.  Combine this incentive with the 30% Federal tax credit - and nearly half of the cost is covered.  The Energy Savings Store coordinated installation.   Watch the Fox 4 story.
First Home Built under Platte County Green Build Program
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The first Platte County Green Build home has been completed and received certification.  The home was built by Golden Key, Inc (Duane Soper).  The home received a "Gold" Certification.  80% of the original building permit fee, will be rebated back to Golden Key, Inc.  The homeowners, Mike and Brenda Farris, are excited about building the first certified Platte County Green Build home and indicated a willingness to have an open house in the future.  Several other green build homes are under construction and more have indicated plans to participate.

MO Conservation Lobby Day - Feb. 3, Jefferson City, MO
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Join Missouri Coalition for the Environment,Missouri Sierra Club, Missouri Votes Conservation, and citizens from across the state at the capitol for Conservation Lobby Day on Wednesday, February 3, 2010. This is an important opportunity to share your passion for the environment with state legislators, and have a big impact on environmental policies affecting Missouri.
Each year, Missourians gather at the capitol to make their conservation values known - from environmentalists, scientists, students and business owners to hunters, anglers and farmers. On Lobby Day, advocate for one of these important issues:
  • Increase Energy Efficiency & Renewables: Improve Missouri's near-bottom energy efficiency ranking and expand usage of renewable energy.
  • Protect Water Quality: Ensure adequate monitoring and enforcement to protect Missouri's streams and lakes.
  • Maintain State Parks: Ensure funding for vitally-needed capital improvements to maintain Missouri's excellent parks.
  • Build Green with LEED Certification: Make buildings more energy efficient through green building standards.
Virginia Tech University estimates that "fossil fuel thermoelectric plants use between... 8 to 16 gallons of water to burn one 60-watt light bulb for 12 hours per day. Over the duration of one year this one incandescent light bulb would consume about 3,000 to 6,300 gallons of water"
