KCP&L Looking for More Wind
Curbing Global Warming Saves Lives
Greetings!

There's been lots of interesting activity in the last month...

MVC held a very successful Environmental Summit in Fulton in November - you can read a summary of environmental legislation for the upcoming session here.

KCP&L received a $24 million federal grant for Smart Grid in the Green Zone in Kansas City.

A group of non-profits published a report called Freeing the Grid - grading states on Net Metering and Interconnection policies for renewable energy.  Kansas(B for Net Metering, F for Interconnection) and Missouri (C and F) scored pretty low.

Thanks for all your assistance, kind remarks, insights and suggestions over the years.  I hope you have a wonderful holiday!

First Solar Array in Platte City, MO

First solar array in Platte City

This small 7 panel array utilizes micro-inverters so the array can later be expanded.   The federal grant and new KCP&L rebates (starting in January) will take care of 50% of the cost.  This energy efficient building is located on Hwy 92 and is the former home to Harding Chiropractic and Platte City Flowers. The Energy Savings Store installed the 1.2 KW solar array.
Job Opening - Clean Energy Coordinator
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
MO Coalition for the Environment is seeking a full time Clean Energy Coordinator for RenewMO.  The Clean Energy Coordinator will help implement the 2010 Renew Missouri program. The Coordinator will work closely with Renew Missouri Directors and with coalition partners across the state. The Clean Energy Coordinator is a full-time position. The position will be based in Columbia, Missouri.
KCP&L Looking for more Wind
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The collaboration agreement between KCP&L, Sierra Club, and CCPC requires KCP&L to install 100 MW of wind by 12/31/2010 and another 300 MW by 12/31/12.   KCP&L recently released RFPs for an additional 300 MW of wind in the 2010-2011 timeframe in order to comply with the agreement.
Curbing Global Warming Saves Lives
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
New research confirms that reducing reliance on fossil fuels and cutting carbon dioxide emissions reduces death from heart and lung diseases.  The link between health, preventable death and CO2 is not generally recognized by the largely pro-life American public where every single life is precious.  This inconsistency should be pointed out - climate change not only impacts polar bears, but humans - from infants to adults.
