Greetings!

logoIt's January, Twenty-Ten! Hopefully the early January chill has worn off for you - we have our first 60-degree day today, although the cold and snow surely made it feel like winter!  We hope you are looking as forward to the new year as we are - we pray that for all of us, its a year full of watching God's hand move in our lives and on behalf of our loved ones.
Blessings to you,

Brittany and Steven VonSpreckleson
Grosses and VonSpreklesons We'd love to introduce you to the VonSprecklesons - a precious young couple that we got to know while Steven was in Memphis for treatment.  Steven was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor in May of 2002.  A teenager at the time, Steven and his family came to Memphis for specialized treatment.  Seven months later, after 2 brain surgeries, radiation, and chemotherapy, he was cancer free and began to live life as normal once again.  After completing high school in Clay Center Nebraska, he married Britney in 2007 and graduated from Nebraska Christian College in May 2008.  After being cancer free for over 5 years, Steven and Britney traveled to Memphis in September 2008 for a routine checkup they expected to be all clear.  The report was brain cancer relapse, and Steven would have surgery and treatment all over again.  During this time, they met Andy and Ginny Gross through a mutual friend.  Steven says, "When we first met Andy and Ginny they wanted to do anything they possibly could to help our family. The way they helped my wife and me out most was simply by being friends and offering support to us. Just after meeting Andy and Ginny we found ourselves wanting to spend all our extra time with them. Every trip to Memphis includes a visit to Andy and Ginny. If you were to ask us who Andy and Ginny are we would simply tell you that they are our friends. They are more than just [staff] at Habitat for Hope - they are our friends for life." The VonSpreckleson's have celebrated many clear scans since his treatment for relapse and are settling into normal life once again.  Steven and Britney currently live in Clay Center, NE.  Steven enjoys working full-time on the family farm, playing his bass guitar, wood working projects, and always has time for hunting.   Britney loves to cook, baby sitting, and drives a bus during corn detasseling season (Steven and Britney literally met in a corn field).  Steven and Britney both love working together with the youth group at church and using their story to give glory to God!
