Campaign Extended into New Calendar Year |
|
Volunteer leadership decided today to extend the campaign into the new year for the first time in the organization's history. Thanks to the efforts of hundreds of volunteers and a generous community, a total of $12,440,290 has been raised for 97.0% of goal amidst a troubling economy.
"Many people have told me that we should be proud of the 97 percent achievement," 2008 Campaign Chair, Mintha Roach said, "but we still have to continue because Knoxville needs the remaining almost $400,000 for the basic needs of our community.
How do you tell hungry Knoxvillians that the emergency food pantries are out of food? How do we tell an elderly person their next Mobile Meals service will not be coming? How do we tell a single mom that affordable daycare is no longer available? We can't. Because our community cares. That's why we're going to strive over the next few weeks to raise this additional money. You can be a part of this solution. Give us a call, go online, make a pledge, write a check."
I'd like to thank the many donors who have played a valuable role in the success in the 2008 campaign so far, especially those who have recognized the unique challenges of this year and have made additional gifts," Roach said.
