Hello Mainstreeters,
 
BarbecueAs you can see the SOHI District is moving forward with new technology and support.  This is our very first newsletter by Constant Contact.  A shout out to Catrina Crane of Menomenee Valley Partners for introducing the SOHI District to this new technology.
 
Taste of SOHI a Success

David Weber T.O.S. 2009David Weber of NIDC enjoys fresh corn at this year's Taste of SOHI.  Despite a cloudy overcast, SOHI supporters enjoyed great music and food.  In addition, Alderman Bauman spoke to the crowd and Right Step, Inc. performed a drill.

Slabey's Corner Ballroom
A large dance studio is just one of the many features of Slabey's Corner now up on the market by the City of Milwaukee.  Other features:

2009 Summer Youth Dance Company
 
The SOHI District is home to Dancing Ground and the group will have a 7 Week Camp and Performance Company at 527 N. 27th Street.
 
Students will participate in:
  • Daily technique class alternating in modern & African dance,
  • Daily composition and theory workshops to create dances,
  • Daily rehearsals with DanceCircus and Xalaat Africa.

Penfield Children's Center Flower Garden
Penfield Children's Center is located in the heart of the district and they work hard keeping a clean lot that is well landscaped and maintained. As summer fast approaches, it is good to see flowers bloom in the district.  Thanks Penfield for your hardwork and support of the SOHI District.

This weekend the SOHI District held its first Artists & Antique Dealers Business Symposium.  Attendees heard from George Tzougros, Wisconsin Arts Board's Executive Director and got a special treat with a tour of the 88 year old Tower TheaterPictures are available of the event with video soon to follow.

Right Step at Taste of SOHI

Right Step, Inc. located on 28th and Wisconsin volunteered at this year's Taste of SOHI.  From setting up tables to keeping the lot clean, these youth have tremedous discipline and focus.
