HELP PREVENT CANCER
Do you know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer? Are you passionate about helping to discover better ways to prevent, treat, and hopefully cure cancer? The American Cancer Society's Modesto office is recruiting participants who are willing to be part of the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Participants need to be 30 to 65 years old who have never been diagnosed with cancer. This cancer prevention study will be launched in October and participants are needed for the study (volunteers are also needed staff enrollment sites). Times and dates for participant enrollment: - Tuesday, October 9th at Community Hospice from noon to 4 p.m.
- Thursday, October 11th at Memorial Medical Center from 6 to 10 a.m. or 4 to 8 p.m.
- Sunday, October 14th at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer (MSABC) from 8 a.m. to noon
- Tuesday, October 16th at the American Cancer Society Discovery Shop from 4 to 8 p.m.

COMMUNITY HEALTH ASSESSMENT
Looking to get involved? We are looking for volunteers (October-November 31, 2012) to help administer a community health assessment face-to-face survey to residents of Stanislaus County. The information collected from the survey is used to determine the health needs of the community, and to develop programs that will address those needs. You have the exciting opportunity to be a part of creating change within your community! Volunteers will be responsible for collecting face-to-face surveys at public events, through door to door outreach, outside of businesses, etc. Volunteers will be asked to collect surveys from specific regions of the county. We ask that you request a region that you are familiar and comfortable with. Volunteer Requirements: - Must have reliable transportation
- Must attend a 3-hour training
- Friday October 5th 2-5pm OR
- Monday October 8th 9am-12pm
- Must adhere to confidentiality requirements
- Must be 18 years of age or older
- Must be respectful, responsible, and motivated
- Attention to detail
- Be physically able to walk/maneuver a wheelchair (if in a wheelchair) for at least 1 hour
- Be willing to walk up to strangers and ask to complete surveys
- Be able to establish friendly connections with residents
- Sign and adhere to a code of conduct form, HIPPA self-study form, and safety self-study form

VOLUNTEER NEEDS
LOVE MODESTO
A community-wide service day for volunteers to participate in helping those who are in need
DATE: Sept. 29
NEEDED: Volunteers of all ages (depending upon the activity) are invited to take part this year in family-friendly projects in Modesto and throughout Stanislaus County (Love Ceres, Love Turlock, Love Waterford, etc.) and the Central Valley. Over 60 different projects offer a variety of opportunities to offer food to the hungry, collect toys for foster children, visit seniors, build a home, deliver baked goods and thanks to public servants such as fire or police departments, clean a park, donate blood to save lives, and much more! This inspiring event will kick off at rally at 9 a.m. in downtown Modesto in front of the Gallo Center for the Arts on I Street prior to dispersing volunteer groups throughout the city. Visit
