OUR PARTNER AGENCIES AT WORK
Residents of the of Whispering Woods development in Modesto were forced from their homes around 11 a.m. on April 12 when Robert Paris, a Stanislaus sheriff's deputy, and Glendon Engert, a Modesto locksmith, were killed while trying to serve an eviction notice. The shooting led to a day-long standoff and authorities fired flash grenades and tear gas in the area where the suspect lived. Hours later a large fire started, sending flames from the apartment where the suspect had been living. Residents of the complex were evacuated.
Through it all the American Red Cross Stanislaus County Chapter was there to help people find shelter, food and clothing. American Red Cross provided support to the families affected by the fire. They assessed the families' needs and provided assistance that included emergency lodging, food, clothing, mental health services, nursing services, and replacement of lost prescription medication.
American Red Cross also provided support to the individuals who could not access their homes. American Red Cross opened an evacuation center that then became a full care overnight shelter (including providing crates/carriers for pets). During the course of three days, more 150 meals were provided to the evacuees and public safety officers.

BANK ON STANISLAUS

A special thank you to Omega Nu-Modesto for the $292 donation to support our Bank on Stanislaus County program. Last month we featured an article describing the program and its benefits. Here is a testimonial from a recent participant.
I really enjoyed the Bank On class. The information we got was valuable. We got information about the different types of checking and savings accounts that were available and what accounts were right for us. I would recommend this class to anyone just starting out that has never had a checking or savings account. This class is also good for anyone who wants a second chance at having a checking or savings account.
