2-1-1 GETS NEW PHONE SYSTEM
The 2-1-1 Stanislaus Center recently went live with a new VOIP (Voice Over Internet Provider) telephone system.
The new system allows the call center to have full control over incoming 2-1-1 calls and be web based to allow for connectivity to the telephone system anywhere the internet is available. The system provides detailed statistical reports, records all calls and allows up to 93 call operators and 93 calls at one time, should it become that busy due to a disaster. This change will also save the 2-1-1 center more than $6,000 annually.
The call center has used the system for three weeks and has made a big improvement in telephone connectivity. The new telephone system is hosted by the Five9 company, which was selected by California 2-1-1. The new system's one-time cost was paid by the California 2-1-1 network in order to allow all 21 call centers to migrate to the VOIP system. That change enhances the ability for all 2-1-1 centers to work together during a large disaster to distribute large call volumes to all the centers in California and, thus, reduce the impact to a single center.
