BANK ON STANISLAUS COUNTY
United Way of Stanislaus County, local non-profit agencies and local financial institutions have partnered to provide financial skills to Stanislaus County residents though Bank on Stanislaus County.
The program offers a financial education workshop, hosted at partnering non-profit agencies and instructed by a volunteer financial institution staff member, for Stanislaus County residents who need to learn basic money management skills, or open a low-cost bank account. The workshop provides fundamental financial management skills such as managing a checking account, tips on saving, and reducing debt. After the participants complete the workshop, they receive a certificate of completion, which they can bring to a partnering financial institution to open a low or no-cost bank account. Accounts can be opened with an Individual Tax Identification Number or a Consular Identification Card.
Individuals who are documented on Chexsystem may be eligible to open a second chance bank account after completing the workshop and presenting the financial institution a certificate of completion.

SUCCESS STORY
From the Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living (DRAIL) Independent Living Service Program, one of 42 United Way of Stanislaus County funded programs:
Recently we were able to assist a 55-year-old homeless veteran who needed Social Security, housing and medical coverage. We opened a case service record (CSR) and helped the man complete the Social Security application online. The application, as well as the medical coverage, was approved within three to four months. Our staff then set up an appointment with a payee agency - part of the Social Security determination. We also helped the man find housing. This person now has an income, medical coverage and his own place to live. He is very happy with DRAIL services.
