OUR SINCERE THANKS!POP

Power of the PurseMore than 500 people attended the United Way's annual Power of the Purse luncheon Oct. 27. (You can see more photos on our Facebook page.)

To all of the people who attended the event or helped in any way, thank you for your support. Your belief in the United Way and your community is invaluable. We count you as one of many who are committed to making a difference in Stanislaus County.

Because of you, we were able to raise additional funds to help support programs provided by our 25 Partner Agencies; programs such as:
  • ReadingWorks Family Literacy Program provided by Stanislaus Literacy Center
  • Teenage Character Development provided by Greater Yosemite Boy Scouts
  • Crisis Response provided by Haven Women's Center of Stanislaus County
  • Pathways Transitional Living Program provided by Center for Human Services
  • Emergency Shelter Program provided by Salvation Army
Together, we can make a difference in our community.

Thank you for your support!
Volunteers are the only human beings on the face of the earth who reflect this nation's compassion, unselfish caring, patience, and just plain love for one another.

MAKING A DIFFERENCESTORY
Below is a success story from a client of the Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living (DRAIL) shared by Angelo, a DRAIL Independent Living Specialist.  DRAIL is one of 25 United Way Partner Agencies.

Bernabe was homeless and living with his brother and his family for a short time. His sister-in-law called me to say that he could no longer live with them because the house was too small.

Bernabe had suffered a stroke that left him with paralysis on the right side of his body. I set up an intake interview and opened a case file. I contacted the Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program (HPRP) to advocate for him for services and wrote letters of support of his disability and gathered the documentation they request and submitted them.

I arranged for Bernabe's brother Paulo to agree to take him to his interview appointment with the HPRP program. He was approved for services and they paid for him to move into an apartment he found.  Now he has his own apartment.
