YOUR DOLLARS AT WORK

The dollars you donate to United Way DO make a difference!

Just read the story below from a Social Worker at the Center for Human Services' Youth Court program which receives funding from United Way.

What is Youth Court?  A peer jury program for first time misdemeanor offenders.

Here's the story:

A thirteen-year-old African American female was arrested for fighting and participated as a defendant in Modesto Youth Court last November.  She was extremely shy and really hesitant at every encounter in Youth Court.  She lives with her elderly, ill grandmother who was very diligent about her completing her consequences for Youth Court.

This young lady just completed the program.  The social worker called grandma to ask about her granddaughter; she said she is doing much better and recently told Grandma she never wants to get in trouble again and go through court.

She has told grandma that whenever she sees a fight or any type of trouble around her, she heads another direction and avoids the situation altogether.  The grandmother said her ability to think before she acts has really improved and she credits the program for helping her granddaughter and other young people.  She said it is a very good program and is glad it's around.
Give.

The United Way of Stanislaus County has set a goal to raise $2,300,000 in our annual community fundraising campaign.

Currently we're working hard towards that goal, and we'll continue to give you updates as time progresses.
