New EarthShift Logo no tag lineGreetings!

EarthShift has an exciting line up of classes this Fall.  In fact by the end of this year you could be well on your way to becoming a certified LCA practitioner.  Read below to find out how to achieve this.

PackageSmart adds a ReportWriting module:  with a simple click and drag you can create custom Word reports of your LCA study.

Prac Cert Be on the Pathway to becoming a Certified LCA Practitioner by year's end.

An EarthShift LCA Practitioner has technical LCA modeling skills, thorough knowledge of ISO 14040/14044 standards, and has been taught to accurately apply the methodology and interpret LCA results culminating in the accumulated knowledge to sit for the American Center for Life Cycle Assessment LCACP exam.

The first step to becoming an LCA practitioner is to have a SimaPro User certification or equivalent. Many of you may already have this certificate as it is a result of our most requested courses, but if not, you could by the end of October by taking these upcoming online courses:
Intro to LCA on October 13
Applied LCA in SimaPro on October 19 & 20
End of Life Beginning on October 26

Once at this level you are ready to tackle the more advanced LCA topics required for the LCA practitioner certificate.
If you have an environmental degree you should sign up for two web classes:
Recycling in SimaPro on December 7 & 8
or join our one day Advanced Interpretation on November 3 in Portsmouth, NH to cover both courses in one day!

If you do not have an environmental degree you should sign up for the intensive Environmental Mechanisms & Impact Assessment Methods five session course beginning October 13 and the Recycling in SimaPro on December 7 & 8.

By putting yourself on this track you will greatly advance your skills as a sustainability professional by years end.  And by following up with our Interpretation class planned for February you will be well on your way to being prepared to take the LCACP exam the following fall.

Environmental Mechanisms  and Impact Assessment Methods- 5 session online course beginning Oct 12
This course delves into the details of how various impact assessment methods are modeling the fate, transport & exposure pathways (causality chain, mechanisms) of emissions, allowing you to understand each impact category and why your results change when you use different impact assessment methods. The course discusses the environmental science of impact categories and is intended for students who have not previously studied environmental science. This course will point out the strengths and weaknesses of the major internationally accepted impact assessment methods, thus allowing you to choose the best method for your LCA study.
The course is split up in to 5 three hour online sessions during the time of Oct 12 through Jan 11.  For more details on how the course is split up and and what each session includes see our full course description.

Packaging Strategies' Sustainable Packaging Forum coming up this fall on Sept 20-22 in Dallas, TX focuses on the latest sustainable packaging practices, business strategies and technologies from across the globe that support company growth while meeting today's sustainability challenges.
Come find out how EarthShift is helping companies meet these challenges by using our simplified LCA tool, PackageSmart.

aclca logo LCA XI
This year's ACLCA LCA XI conference in Chicago, IL with the theme "Instruments for Green Futures Markets" looks promising, once again, for presenting some interesting studies and hot topics in the LCA field. The EarthShift team is looking forward to hearing many presentations including EarthShift own Harnoor Dahliwal's presentation of a Comparative LCA of Xylitol and the importance of co-product allocation during the Allocation session.  Also listen to a detailed sustainability analysis that incorporates Total Cost Assessment (TCA) by our client Kiyotada Hiyashi's (from the National Agriculture and Food Research Organization ) during the Life Cycle Costing session titled Practicing lead-user development of the TCA methodology for biomass trials in Japan during the Life Cycle Costing session.
In addition, EarthShift's training manager, Laurel McEwen, will be teaching the course LCA and Recycling from 3-4:30pm the Monday before.  Sign up now!  We hope to see you there!
